@JoyousCivic How is it possible that the person who single handedly saved us from the perils of Covid by keeping us in prison could ever be capable of deviousness? Surely not saint Nic?

@ScottingtonPost Actually, 42% of Scottish school leavers go straight to university (not 95% ) But capped funded places mean qualified Scots kids sometimes miss preferred spots while unis take more fee payers. Just data and factual. Not spin from the SNP.

@DMacdugg 95% of Scot kids go to university in Scotland. And the vast majority get the course they want if they get the grades. Sure there’s a very small trade off between available places and them not all having another £50k of debt. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Strange conversation last night with an SNP voter in university places in Scotland. He was adamant that all Scot’s kids would get places and I explained the quota cap. He dismissed it saying it was Yoon propaganda. Are these people in the real world?

🚨 JOKE OF THE DAY: THE WESTMINSTER CIRCUS HAS OUTDONE ITSELF. Labour MP Andy Slaughter has just written an essay defending the backroom coronation of Andy Burnham, and his arguments are a complete comedy routine. 🤡 He actually claims that calling a General Election to choose the next Prime Minister is "not a widespread view" and would be completely "self-indulgent" for the country! Think about the absolute brass neck of these people. Allowing the British public to actually vote for the person running their country is now considered a luxury we cannot afford. Slaughter openly admits that your NHS is buckling, economic growth has stalled, and you are paying the highest taxes on record. But do not worry. He reassures us that "the mood in Parliament is lifted" and everyone in Westminster feels really positive about themselves! Your bills are soaring, you have zero say in who leads our country, but at least the elite inside the Westminster bubble are happy. RT if you have had enough of these out-of-touch snobs and demand a General Election NOW! 🔁🇬🇧🔥

🚨 BREAKING: THE £38 BILLION LABOUR TAX RAID HAS JUST LEAKED. Good morning to the millions of everyday, hardworking Brits waking up this Monday morning to an absolute financial slaughter. Andy Burnham is preparing to launch a massive, unprecedented £38 billion tax raid the second he takes the keys to Number 10 this Friday. 🤡 This brings Labour's total tax grab to a staggering £104 billion every single year when combined with Rachel Reeves's previous business raids. Reform UK has just exposed his planned torrent of new taxes that were completely hidden from the manifesto. He is preparing to slap a 10% death tax on family homes, align capital gains tax with income tax, and hit landlords with National Insurance to drive up your rents. He is even lowering the mansion tax threshold to just £1.5 million to drag ordinary middle-class homeowners into higher rates. They are treating the British public like a bottomless ATM to fund their out-of-control, socialist spending spree. If Burnham has the audacity to impose £38 billion of brand-new, undemocratic taxes on your family, he has absolutely zero mandate to govern. We do not want a backroom coronation. We want a vote. RT if you demand an immediate General Election to stop this robbery and take our country back! 🔁🇬🇧🔥

The ancients teach us there are three types of people. It’s about how they react to adversity: victims, heroes and villains. Victims feel sorry for themselves. Heroes go out and change things for themselves and their families. Then you have villains. Gary is a villain. Villains suffer adversity and look for someone to blame. What makes Gary even more villainous is how he benefits from all the attention. Even though, as history also shows us, his “ideas” will not alleviate the adversity of those in Ilford and elsewhere. On the contrary, it will put more people into adversity. But Gary knows this very well, because lots of intelligent and successful people keep telling him what his “ideas” will lead to.

Say you have £100M net worth. The proposed wealth tax is 2% on assets over £10M… so you’d owe £1.8M every year in additional taxes. To pay the additional £1.8M each year (2% on £90M) you would need to pay a £4M dividend. Of that £4M dividend, you get zero ALL of it is tax (see calculation below). Given that most scalable assets pay less than 4% yield as it is, there is no point in owning UK assets. Especially because you’d also be paying tax to buy the assets, to employ people to run the assets and you’d be losing CGT or IHT if you sell them or die. All serious investment would dry up and the economy becomes a backwater, stagnant economic wasteland rapidly.

Everyone is piling on to @garyseconomics - his wealth tax documentary has bombed. Even the Guardian has given it a 2-star review and watched in horror as experts and onlookers alike call his ideas a car wreck. It’s disappointing that he stuck to the same scripted lines that he said to me over a year ago. I raised the core issues with him back then and he did nothing to evolve his thinking. Now with all of that said, I want to urge that we don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Wealth Taxes won’t work but that doesn’t mean we can’t look for ways to improve things for people who are struggling. Gary’s popularity stems from a real issue. Millions of people see no way of keeping up with the costs of living. For millions of people in the UK their living standards are getting worse year on year and it needs to be addressed. Here’s my thinking: THE CAUSE: - technology is devaluing jobs by making them easy to automate, outsource or simplify. - we’ve had an un-targeted immigration policy that has flooded the UK labour market with millions of additional low skilled workers who compete with local entry-level workers. - we have a UK government that has exploded debt and spending. Government spending that doesn’t result in productivity gains creates inflation. - We have massive global businesses who do business in the UK but don’t contribute anything in tax revenue. They put local retailers, code shops and publishers out of business and move their profits to low tax zones. SOLUTIONS TO EXPLORE: - Special economic zones that offer lower taxes for small businesses that set up in parts of the country that need economic activity. - Broadcast licenses for social media giants. - IP licensing taxes for companies that take the piss with profit shifting. - Lower taxes for startups. Reinstate the Entrepreneurs Relief. Expand SEIS/EIS. - Allow home based businesses to claim childcare, cleaners, company car etc so they can run a better business. - Allow tax deductions for home renovations (other countries have seen massive stimulus from this). - Set up a British Sovereign wealth fund using oil and gas reserves. - Reduce regulations and get builders building homes. - Full support for the British farmers who create jobs and provide domestic food security. - Entrepreneurial apprenticeships. - Financial literacy and business skills taught in schools. What would you add to the list?

Wealth tax explained: 1. Laura loves to cook, she risks all her life savings and opens a small restaurant: Laura‘s Kitchen 2. Laura works really hard, evenings, weekends, no vacations 3. The local community loves Laura‘s Kitchen, it’s a success, the restaurant gets larger, Laura hires 30 people from the neighborhood 4. Laura makes 1,5 Million € in profit, she pays 40% in income tax: 600,000€ 5. The left „tax the rich“ party wins the elections, and introduces a wealth tax 6. Laura‘s Kitchen gets valued by the tax authorities at 25 Million €. Laura must pay 5% wealth tax: 1,25 Million € 7. The income tax of 600,000€ plus 1,25 Million € in wealth tax is more than the 1,5 Million € Laura makes 8. Laura cannot afford to pay more taxes than she makes, she closes Laura’s Kitchen 9. Laura loses her life savings despite years of hard work, 30 people lose their jobs, the state receives zero taxes 10. The local community goes to McDonalds again 11. The local left “tax the rich“ party members blame „capitalism“ for that on social media 12. Everyone gets poorer due to higher unemployment and lower tax revenues Why is this so difficult for the left to understand?

Nigel Farage claims there's no money in politics, but his track record says otherwise. From hiding massive gifts to abandoning his own voters in Clacton, he's only ever cared about himself. It’s time to face the facts: Nigel Farage is just a Temu Trump.

Dale Vince donated £5.7 million to the Labour Party. Then his energy companies received £123 million in taxpayer subsidies. Were journalists camping outside his home or hounding his family? But when it’s Nigel Farage? The double standards couldn’t be more obvious.

So let me get this straight, everyone turned up to Makerfield to give @andyburnham some legitimacy as he gets crowned leader of the @UKLabour politburo, but when @Nigel_Farage tries to pull the same trick, the establishment runs like cowards. There’s a serious conversation to be had on the “right” a conversation @Nigel_Farage may not want to have, but the voters of Clacton deserve to be heard, rather than used to upset Westminster. It’s a shameful dereliction of responsibility and duty to ignore a perfectly legitimate by election. Britain is on the brink. Where are the @Conservatives and more importantly where is @RestoreBritain? I’m not sure politicians refusing to turn up to elections is a great look. Especially given as politicians are employed by the electorate.

Totally accept Farage is entitled to year round, 24-hour-a-day protection from the usual suspects and will need it for the rest of his life. Security doesn’t come cheap and he will have got through that £5million in ten years. Therefore I can’t understand is why the Home Office withdrew 70% of the security funding which effectively forced Farage into the arms of a crypto king. Even going into a pub for a quick beer is damned risky when you hold Farage’s populist views. The report cutting his protection needs being published. Perhaps Farage could lay his hands on a copy. I suspect it will help his case in the Court of Public Opinion.

Someone sensible inside Reform - and there are sensible people in there - needs to step back, take a moment, then say "OK, this is spiralling completely out of control now. Let's call off the by-election, take a time out, and have a serious think about how we move forward".
