The road between Adré, Chad, and El Geneina, West Darfur, has remained closed since 28 July, after the RSF arrested two brothers, traders in electronic goods between the two towns, on suspicion of collaborating with the Sudanese army. Adré market has also stayed shut, with only humanitarian organizations permitted to operate, and local communities are calling for the brothers' release. DNHR calls for the release of the two men unless credible evidence is presented through a transparent legal process, and for the reopening of the border route and market to allow civilian trade and movement to resume. Heavy rains and flooding across Blue Nile State have damaged and collapsed shelters in displacement sites, cutting off access for residents and humanitarian assistance alike. Stagnant water and deteriorating sanitation are raising fears of malaria and waterborne disease, while displaced families already face shortages of food, medicine, and shelter materials. Displaced communities have issued an urgent appeal for emergency shelter, food, medicine, clean water, and improved sanitation. #Khartoum Update On July 28, 2026 , Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem met Turkish FM Hakan Fidan in Ankara to discuss Red Sea security, regional stability, and stronger bilateral ties. A drone attack reportedly carried out by the RSF struck the Bamna border area between Sudan and Chad on 21 July, hitting sites in Ander and Bamna as well as a drinking water well relied on by local communities. The strike killed 2 civilians and injured 7 others, including several children, and forced families to flee toward Al-Wadi and across the border into Chad. A wave of attacks across Blue Nile and Kordofan this week has left dozens of civilians dead, including children. A Sudanese army drone strike killed displaced people sheltering in Blue Nile's Badia area, an RSF patrol shot and killed six-year-old Nader Shehab and critically injured his brother in West Kordofan, and a market bombing in Ar Rahad killed and injured children and adults alike. These incidents reflect a conflict that continues to expand geographically, with civilians, particularly displaced families and children, bearing the overwhelming human cost. The International Criminal Court has withdrawn war crimes charges against Abdallah Banda over the 2007 attack on the AU peacekeeping base in Haskanita, Darfur. The Office of the Prosecutor said key witnesses central to the case had since been found unreliable or had withdrawn cooperation, and that further investigation failed to restore the evidentiary foundation needed for trial. The withdrawal is without prejudice to future charges. Legal representatives for victims told the Chamber the decision risks ending nearly two decades of waiting for justice for those affected by the attack. Rose Monjtoog Dau, Head of Abyei Civil Society Organizations, has welcomed the Misseriya Ajaira's endorsement of Abyei's right to take part in Sudan's December 2026 elections, while stressing that this is separate from the region's unresolved right to self-determination. A Sudanese court has sentenced RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) and 15 others to death in absentia over the 2023 killing of West Darfur Governor Khamis Abakar and atrocities against the Masalit community in El Geneina. The European Parliament has adopted a resolution condemning war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sudan, with a specific focus on the RSF's siege of El Obeid. The ongoing conflict in Sudan has devastated civilians, leading to tens of thousands of deaths and serious humanitarian crises. With over 10.5 million internally displaced and four million fleeing to neighboring countries, Sudan faces the world’s worst displacement crisis. Over 30 million people require humanitarian assistance, with acute hunger affecting regions like Darfur and Kordofan. Since the conflict began in April 2023, the SAF and RSF have committed numerous human rights violations, including deliberate attacks on civilians. Ethnic targeting has resulted in assaults on non-Arab communities, with women and girls subjected to sexual violence and exploitation. Children are not incidental victims; they are directly affected, facing forced recruitment, sexual violence, unlawful detention, torture, and a lack of medical care. #Update from Um Dafuq South Darfur. Local sources report that Seleka forces have taken control of the Central African Republic side of the Um Dafuq border area, adjacent to Sudan’s South Darfur State. Um Dafuq is a strategically important border crossing linking western Sudan with northern Central African Republic. For years, it has served as a key route for cross-border trade while also witnessing the movement of armed groups operating in the region.
