@CallMeStat Not to say your point about the past isn’t valid, but these riders are tested so much (including during the night in this tour!) that it would be very hard to dope to a decent level for performance enhancing imo. But…let’s see what the results say if we ever see them

@CallMeStat Fair enough. Glad to hear your are a fellow cycling nut 😄 Happy also to disagree with you on Pogi. Speaking from my own experience my cycling performance has improved significantly since the advent of power meters, science backed coaching and proper nutrition.

The Economist had a short window to interview the guy who’s arguably advancing human capabilities more than any other single individual in many generations. So of course they spent it lecturing him for holding the ‘wrong’ political views, and telling him people ‘loathe’ him, because he refuses to accept their deeply ideological, midwit interpretation of reality and parrot groupthink as they do. And they think this is all a big ‘win’ for them. So embarrassing.

God, where to start? At a time when England and the very idea of Englishness are being co-opted by those who seek to divide us, here came a team that briefly, ever so briefly, quietened the noise. A team that could represent all of us, and show the world how we want to be seen. Hard-workers, grafters, fighters. No fetishised nostalgia or cynical isolation or flag-shagging patriotism were needed to love this team. We loved, and continue to love them, because of who they were in the toughest of moments. So, remember Atlanta, hold the memory of that pain close, but don’t forget how you felt when Anthony Gordon feathered in from Morgan Rogers’ cross, or the electricity of Jordan Pickford flying through the air to make a save, or the indomitable, towering presence of Elliot Anderson. Don’t forget how close we were to a first World Cup final in 60 years. Thank god for Jude Bellingham. Thank god for Harry Kane, Djed Spence, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Dan Burn, Jordan Pickford, John Stones, Reece James, Eberechi Eze, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, and Nico O’Reilly. Thank god for each and every member of the squad and the fans who travelled and paid those extraordinary prices. There is so much wrong with this country, and so much that needs to be fixed and that is beyond fixing, if we are truthful with ourselves. But remember the Azteca, remember Norway, and remember the moments when these boys made anything feel possible. Remember how they made you feel. Take that with you. That is what it means to be English.

A message from Simon: Dear all, I have made the decision to retire from professional cycling.
 This may come as a surprise to many, but it is not a decision I have made lightly. I have been thinking about it for a long time, and it now feels like the right moment to step away from the sport.
 Cycling has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. From racing on the track at the Manchester Velodrome, to competing and winning on the biggest stage and representing my country at the Olympic Games, it has shaped every chapter of my life.
 I am deeply proud of what I have managed to achieve and equally grateful for the lessons that came with it. While the victories will always stand out, the harder days and setbacks were just as important. They taught me resilience and patience, and made the successes mean even more.
 To everyone who has supported me along the way, from the staff to my teammates, your unwavering belief and loyalty made it possible for me to realise my own dreams. Whenever I doubted myself, you never did. Thank you.
 To my team, Team Visma–Lease a Bike, thank you for your understanding and support of my decision to stop now. You gave me the opportunity to rewrite my history, and through trust and belief, we did it together. Thank you.
 To my family, you shared the sacrifices that came with this sport. The absences and missed birthdays were never easy, yet you understood what this journey meant to me and supported it wholeheartedly. I owe you more than I can ever properly express. Thank you.
 I step away from professional cycling with deep pride and a sense of peace. This chapter has given me more than I ever imagined. Memories and moments that will stay with me long after the racing ends and for whatever comes next.

We ‘won’ and the tenant now had 42 days to leave. We likely won’t see a penny of the £4k arrears. And have over £1500 of costs… No wonder landlords are selling up!

Was in court today to try and evict a tenant who is a drug user and owes us £4k in rent. This was my second time in court (first time we lost because the judge was a prick). This time I paid a barrister to attend. When I arrived he told me the chance of winning was 50/50 🤪.

Every in-sophisticated landlord who has bought an HMO in the last 10 years. 😅

Reactive maintenance is costly and makes for lumpy cashflow

We schedule regular maintenance visits to catch issues before they become severe. On Tuesday our team spotted a small issue with the flooring in a laundry room. Turns out there was a leak which was easily fixed. If that had not been found, it would have cost thousands.
