@JamieQRoberts I think sometimes the weighting is the same but there's disagreement on how to actually implement a plan to achieve the desired result.

My sense is that people on different sides of politics tend to share most of their beliefs. The difference comes from the weighting given to beliefs. So most people believe there should be social safety nets, equality of opportunity, but also that people need to strive to make something of themselves. The tragedy of politics is that different weightings are transformed into tribal allegiances.

After the unexpected popularity of the post about the German attempt at coming up with an equivalent fighter engine in WW2 to combat the 2-stage supercharged Merlin, I mentioned that the Daimler-Benz DB628 had vanes in the supercharger inlet.
This was in fact a swirl-throttle.
An illustration often works better than a picture, so here is my Swirl Throttle, in this case it is in fact a Russian Mikulin AM35/38 version. I modelled it from German WW2 technical intelligence reports of captured Russian aircraft then 3D printed on my ULTIMAKER, I`ve got one of the super early ones with a wooden frame !
But the operation and principles are identical, hydraulics vary the vane angles in flight and modulate the angle at which the air enters the supercharger inducers, very efficiently varying engine performance by modifying the pre-swirl term on the 2nd term of the Euler Turbomachinery equation.
(published in the 1750`s).
If you are ever a a pub quiz and dont know the answer to a "who invented mathematics/theory XYZ" and you are not sure, write EULER, and you will have a high probability of winning, he did more or less everything.

Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term "dark matter" which is impressive, but he also coined the term "spherical bastard" to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more.

I know everyone is jumping on this bandwagon, but honestly does anyone have a legitimate reason why the falcon 9 has landing legs at all? I’ve wondered this forever. If they have designated landing locations anyway, and can’t deviate landing site, why waste fuel flying them?
