Finished my most ambitious (in terms of decoration) book yet! Gothic binding with wooden cover boards, leather inlays and blind tooling, for a personal journal

All the fnv dlc is so good, but honest hearts really might be the best imo

Its a shame that my favorite artistic movement and source of inspiration, the Arts and Crafts movement is named so generically

@m0ment1234 Im glad! If you need reference look up hemp leaf binding/Japanese stab binding and there's a ton of guides out there, its quite easy. I would add a welt or something to prevent the edge cutting through the thread, which is bound to happen some day on mine lol

If I were making a real one, which i might at some point, id add some sort of welt to protect the stitching and give more thought to the retaining mechanism, but to keep me from slamming my hand onto the edge while digging around a messy work bench top it'll do

@dickietheshah I think its fun, but struggles with having legs beyond the initial concept, such that just imagining it would be a similar experience to seeing it physically in front of you

I need to develop better taste i think, too many of my instinctive ideas are just gimmicky post-ironic context swapping things and its lame to dredge through in search of something good

@strnglft There's a real vulnerability to it which is a struggle, and one i dont know how to square properly i think

@DRIFTPRAIRIES It takes a real kind of confrontation to believe in the essential stuff of your taste without any irony masking the reality of desire. As an example, deep in the back of my mind I know film-making is worthless as a venture if I do not direct people.

@VoyageNull Thank you! I started with a class in college on making photo books as an art form, and then found a bookbinding mentor back home who ive worked a lot with. I need to hone in more I think, rededicate myself to it and really focus on improving, ive been sort of coasting I feel

@DRIFTPRAIRIES That makes sense. Were you a protege to someone for bookbinding? Your work is great and in a world of distraction honing in I think is a strength.

@VoyageNull I think its good to develop both though and ive been slacking on the Art in favor of Craft (as nebulous as my own definitions for the difference for those is, there's a very real divide in my mind)

@VoyageNull Very real phenomenon, and one i think I suffer from some as well. its what ive been calling craftsman brain, and is what first attracted me to photography and then bookbinding and other stuff.

@verdantdreams_ Its definitely some poison ingested by growing up on the internet, or in the air culturally. Im going to have to start imagining that until my default becomes some sort of primitive animism

@DRIFTPRAIRIES I often think like this and picture somebody hitting me over the head with a large branch to retard me and revert whatever damage has been done to cause this.

Same with oil paintings of memes or the hud from halo 1, youve got all you get out of it just by imagining it, and its frustrating that its a default mode of thought for me

By which i mean things like "itd be funny to do an elaborate decorated leather binding of the service manual for a honda civic" which is bad bc thinking about the concept and seeing it finished provide exactly the same amount of interest, nothing is added by completing it
