I can't believe I'm saying this - I'm officially a published author :D After three years, my first book is out. "AI for the Rest of Us" with @BloomsburyAcad is finally in the world. I wrote it because I watched too many people get left behind in AI conversations. The gap between executives and engineers kept growing. Everyone else just nodded along, trying to translate both languages at once. So I built a bridge.

I’m Ken Ono. After a long stretch in university administration, I made a personal pivot: back to math, back to education, and into the AI moment with a lot of hope (and a lot of care). If AI is going to matter, it should give humans time back for the parts of learning that are deeply human. More in thread 👇

Epic day 1 for Claude Code Community. Total applications: 1,341 Accepted Members: 234 Distinguished Members: @lennysan, @clairevo, @mattpocockuk, @mattyp, @swyx, @Austen, and more As many of you know, our application is an easter egg hunt to see how big of a Claude Code power user you really are. The results (eggs found): 16🥚- 37 applicants (2.7% of total) 14🥚- 64 applicants 13🥚- 27 applicants 12🥚- 9 applicants 11🥚- 19 applicants 10🥚- 24 applicants Top use cases shared: 1) Hans K. built a 3D world visualizing all of their repos with semantic clustering + generated illustrations. 2) Paul C. is building a change log bot for CCC so every time CC drops an update, it would ping in the slack channel for others to see whats new. 3) Bek A. created Theo Prawn, a talking fish on the wall of his house trained on Theo Von's voice. "Currently getting some wheels installed, goal is to have him roam around the house talking sh*t" In case you were wondering, this is a f*cking blast.

It genuinely feels to me like GPT-5.2 and Opus 4.5 in November represent an inflection point - one of those moments where the models get incrementally better in a way that tips across an invisible capability line where suddenly a whole bunch of much harder coding problems open up

I want to start a community dedicated to Claude Code. It’s become the gateway drug to coding and experiencing the power of AI for tons of people. This will be a space for people to share killer use cases, agentic workflows, proven prompts, and connect with other CC obsessives. Comment “Claude” if you want to join.

Understanding vanilla GRPO is not enough. There are many tricks / modifications needed to avoid things things like training instability and entropy collapse, especially at scale. In a new blog, I outline (or at least try my best) all of the practical tricks and best practices that have been recently proposed for GRPO. The overview will be released tomorrow morning. It includes 10+ papers and is 13,000 words long. Super excited for this one!

So grateful for this past year. 1. @gradi3nt_ascent tripled in size from 8k to 25k subscribers. 2. I published my first book with @BloomsburyAcad 3. Grew from 2k to a community of 100k followers on LinkedIn. I wrote about the newsletter journey and what's next for Gradient Ascent, writing and education, especially given how AI has commoditized learning. Or has it? Post linked below. Happy New Year!
