Good to see you again, @AJCCEO. The EU remains committed to a constructive and frank dialogue with Israel. Security, stability, and lasting peace in the region are our shared goals. We want 🇪🇺-🇮🇱 relations to return to full trust and breadth, alongside progress on Gaza’s recovery and improvements in the West Bank, in view of a Two-State solution. The EU is strongly committed to combating antisemitism and supporting Jewish life, including through our continued cooperation with Yad Vashem and @AJCGlobal.

Quite a cowardly statement. The root causes which must be addressed are Israeli aggression and US imperialism. Instead you are implying that Iran bears responsibility when we all know it was the country which came under attack.

After five weeks of war in the Middle East, it is clear that only a diplomatic solution will settle its root causes. Any targeting of civilian infrastructure, namely energy facilities, is illegal and unacceptable. This applies to Russia’s war in Ukraine and it applies everywhere. The Iranian civilian population is the main victim of the Iranian regime. It would also be the main victim of a widening of the military campaign. As I stressed in my recent call with the President of Iran, @DrPezeshkian, the European Union urges Iran to immediately put an end to its attacks against countries in the region and to allow for the reestablishment of full freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Escalation will not achieve a ceasefire and peace. Only negotiations will, namely the ongoing efforts led by regional partners.

US regards incident in which a man was blocked from entering a church as an “unfortunate overreach” yet is totally ok with slaughtering schoolgirls in Iran and providing the weapons used to commit a genocide in Gaza.

My statement re Prohibiting the Latin Patriarch of entering Church of Holy Sepulcher on Palm Sunday: While all Holy sites in the Old City are closed due to safety concerns for mass gatherings including the Western Wall, Church of the Holy Sepulcher and Al Aqsa Mosque, the action today by the Israel Nat'l Police to deny Latin Patriarch Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa and 3 other priests from entering the Church to offer a blessing on Palm Sunday is an unfortunate overreach already having major repercussions around the world.  Home Front Command Guidelines restrict any gatherings to 50 people or less.  The 4 representatives of the Catholic Church were well below that restriction.  Statements from the Gov't of Israel indicate the action to prohibit Cardinal Pizzaballa entry to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher were for safety reasons, but churches, synagogues, and mosques throughout Jerusalem have met with the restrictions of 50 or less.  For the Patriarch to be barred from entry to the Church on Palm Sunday for a private ceremony is difficult to understand or justify. Israel has indicated it will work with the Patriarch to accommodate a safe means of carrying out Holy Week activities.
