Dying With Dignity Victoria
Dying With Dignity Victoria played a key role in securing end-of-life choice legislation in 2017, which was a remarkable achievement. Victorians would never have been able to access a Voluntary Assisted Death if not for the high level of support from the Victorian community...

This week, I’ll be having another MRI brain scan looking for any evidence of recurrence of my brain cancer (as well as for treatment side effects and stability of my cerebral artery aneurysm). Despite a busy and incredibly fun week at the Australian of the Year events, I am as nervous as ever! So called scanxiety lives on! Thanks everyone for your support and kindness. @ausoftheyear @SydneyLHD @Sydney_Uni #glioblastoma

Massive congratulations 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher AO. I have admired you greatly throughout my life. You were a brilliant AFL footballer and tremendous leader as captain of Essendon from a very young age, and subsequently as coach of Melbourne. But what you’ve done since you became afflicted by motor neurone disease is even more remarkable and further highlights what an amazing human being you are. Pushing the medical field forward in so many ways further demonstrates your leadership, self sacrificing commitment and dedication to help fellow humans. Thank you for being who you are. It has and continues to benefit all of us. Congratulations also to the other Australians of the Year for your brilliant work that shows your selfless personalities, hard work and commitment are making amazing differences for the community and beyond: Brother Thomas Oliver Pickett AM, Senior AOTY Dr Katrina Wruck, Young AOTY Vanessa Brettell & Hannah Costello, Local Hero AOTY I’m proud to be an Australian when I learn about so many amazing people & what they are doing for society! @ausoftheyear @NealeDaniher

CT has introduced two opposite DWD bills this session: HB 5625 supports terminally ill residents’ right to choose, while HB 5712 threatens this right by wrongfully labeling DWD as suicide. Help spread the word so CT residents can take action now: tinyurl.com/2e529u52

I’m excited to be heading to Canberra later this week to, along with Georgina Long, “pass the baton” to the next Australian of the Year. What an extraordinary platform it has been for us to meet amazing Aussies with diverse attributes making Australia a better nation. For us it’s also been an incredible platform to spread sun safety messages to prevent melanoma. Just like last year, there are absolutely outstanding state winners in all categories who have contributed enormously to society and our nation! I reckon the judging panel has an almost impossible task! Here’s a few photos from last year. @ausoftheyear

Dying people are taking their own lives now with no medical/legal oversight says @LewisAtkinson. @kimleadbeater's bill introduces safety & scrutiny where there is none, more than any current end of life choice in UK or any such bill in the world. That's why 75% public back change

This tragic scenario is unfortunately not unique to NZ. There have been instances in Victoria where individuals have been transferred out of Aged Care Facilities barred from taking VAD medication there on the premises- their home bit.ly/42jGh52 - see article @nzherald
