The CPM government of Jyoti Basu had also given enormous encouragement to the illegal Muslim infiltration from Bangladesh into West Bengal. Tathagata Roy, in his book Bampantha Bhayankari, Banglay O Bideshe (“Leftism: Terrifying, in Bengal and Abroad”), mentions that during the 1980s a large number of Bihari Muslims infiltrated West Bengal from Bangladesh. They even spread into Katihar and Kishanganj in Bihar and altered the demographic balance there. Many of these Bihari Muslims had happily migrated to East Pakistan after Partition upon getting an Islamic state. During 1950, they had directly participated in Hindu massacres and the rape of Hindu women. The 1950 Assam Mail massacre was carried out by these Bihari Muslims. After Bangladesh gained independence during the Liberation War, West Pakistan refused to take them back, and they also became a deeply hated and ostracized community among the Bengali-speaking people of Bangladesh. At that point, many of them illegally entered India through clandestine routes and spread across areas like Garden Reach, Metiabruz, and Rajabazar, Cossipur in Kolkata. Kolkata’s roads and footpaths became filled with their hawking activities, and many among them also became involved in various criminal activities. None of this would have happened without the support of the Communists in the state and the Congress at the Centre. Around the 1990s, a BJP delegation met the then Chief Minister Jyoti Basu regarding this infiltration issue. However, receiving no attention or assistance from him, they returned disappointed. Former Governor of West Bengal T. V. Rajeswar, who had previously worked in the intelligence services, had also warned about this issue and sensed a strong possibility of the state turning into an Islamic republic in the future. With the decline of the Hindu demographic in West Bengal and the intensification of Islamic jihadist tendencies, the role of the Communists is no less significant than that of the Trinamool Congress. The sooner the BJP leadership understands this, the better it will be for us.

West Bengal’s tfr has dropped to 1.2 including muslims so if you remove them the Bengali Hindu TFR is most likely below 1.0. This is a quiet demographic crisis. When a community's TFR drops below 1, far under the 2.1 replacement level, it faces rapid population decline and aging. For Bengali Hindus, TFR below 1.0 means our unique cultural heritage, traditions, and local representation will quietly go extinct over the next two generations.
