Shanghai is my favorite city in mainland China. Most Westerners living in China secretly (or not so secretly) wish they could live in Shanghai. It has an energetic yet sophisticated vibe of a major European city, while still feeling distinctly Chinese. The city is surprisingly green, with tree-lined streets and lush parks. It feels like it grew more organically than most modern Chinese metropolises. The food scene is absolutely incredible, you can find almost any cuisine in the world at high quality. The people are cosmopolitan and open-minded, and there’s always something to do, whether it’s culture, nightlife, shopping, or just exploring the city.

Been to Huaqiangbei Tech Market today to see what is new and search for specific items. Tbh, the hardware market was - as mostly - underwhelming to me. I don’t understand the hype. Mostly low tech old China things. Couldn’t even get my LicheeRV - maybe my fault but real ..

Sunday morning thoughts: After a strong week for $NIO with solid Q1 deliveries still fresh in mind and the share price showing some nice momentum, I’m actually looking forward to what this week brings. We have the official launch of the 2026 refreshed models (ES6, EC6, ET5 series) and the much-anticipated ES9 flagship event coming up. These could be important steps in keeping the product lineup competitive and exciting. The recent price action feels like the market is slowly starting to price in some of the operational progress we’ve seen. Still volatile of course, but the direction has been encouraging lately. Hoping for continued positive momentum this week, both on the product side and on the stock. $NIO #NIO

The 80,000th ES8 delivery feels like just yesterday—now the 90,000th comes only 14 days later. The 90,000th ES8 was delivered today in Hefei. 90,000 deliveries in 195 days—impressive for a large SUV in this price range. $NIO

I still couldn’t escape my “curse” — every new car I own seems to get a flat tire within the first six months. Luckily, I have NIO Service. While the tire was being repaired, I also got a look at the thick layer of sound-deadening foam inside the tire. $NIO

Since 2021 even before NIO was present in the Netherlands. I’m saying any other market won’t be as significant as their home market China. Not saying it won’t come to Europe but ONVO sales won’t be as significant compare to China sales due to tariffs. 30k Euro for a Firefly is telling. They will avoid it with a righthand drive version. Then there is no or not enough swap stations to support ONVO in EU, let alone deployment of specific batteries for ONVO, they are different than NIOs. There is little to no support ONVO was made for Europe. It will do fine to focus in China alone for at least another year.

Where is the ONVO L90 sold right now? 100% in China last time I checked. Who knows Louis Koo in China? Probably 99,99%. Asia’s population is 60/40 vs the rest. I bet 80% in Asia knows Louis Koo or has seen his films. He is actually carefully selected and the chosen one the brand name 乐道/ONVO as his name 天乐/Louis are deeply connected, same as Karen Mok was similarly chosen for NIO. 乐道 Finding joy in your way/journey, while 天乐 means heavenly joy. Only those who understand Chinese would be able get this hint and sophisticated intention behind this choice.

I’m surprised you are finally posting about NIO. I have been swapping for a while now in Europe with my ET5T. I was in Shenzhen only two weeks ago, I had to checkout the new models L90, ES8 and ET9 Horizon. Found a NIO showroom at the Upperhills, blown away. L90 is so much value for money, but the ES8 is even more luxurious and such a steal for that price range. Can imagine most people would buy them instantaneously. I know I would’ve if I was living in China.

Visited @NIOGlobal factory in Hefei with NIO Capital CEO Ian Zhu & a small group I brought. No cameras in the actual factory but just want to offer a few highlights for those who can and want to reflect.

Just anecdotal video but there is truth to it: Western brands still enjoy brand capital and Chinese brands haven’t yet cracked the code. Russian market (shielded from competition) could become a testing ground for markt entry strategies.
