In 2016, a dog fell into a reservoir in Almaty and could not escape the steep concrete walls and strong current. A man tried to help but was unable to reach it on his own. Seeing this, several strangers stepped in and formed a human chain, reaching down into the rushing water and saving both the dog and the man. Ten years later, this moment was turned into a sculpture unveiled on March 18. Funded privately and approved by the city, it stands as a symbol of kindness, unity, and people coming together. More than a tribute to a single rescue, it reflects something simple and real: in urgent moments, strangers can help one another and save lives.

Today is #LongCovidAwarenessDay Long Covid changed my life beyond recognition. I got ill. I never recovered. Lost my job. Became housebound. I rely on others to do things for me. I lie on my bed most of the day. Watch the Guardian's short film about my life with #LongCovid 👇

“You’re not just becoming disabled,” said Elle Seibert, 31, who has dealt with debilitating fatigue and cardiac symptoms since 2020. “You’re realizing how easily society at large and people in your life will abandon you when you cannot offer them things.” latimes.com/science/story/…

#VeerUpdate Soft grass under his feet instead of hard concrete. Gentle voices guiding him instead of bullhook pokes. And small treats waiting every few steps along the way. That’s what Veer’s first walk with us looked like yesterday at our Elephant Hospital Campus (EHC), just days after his rescue. At one point, Veer quietly stopped beside a tree, as if something had caught his attention. He reached out with his trunk, feeling along the bark before pulling down a few leaves to munch on. Such a simple, natural moment, yet deeply meaningful. For an elephant who spent years walking streets and carrying heavy loads, being able to pause and enjoy a tree like that is something he may not have experienced freely in a very long time.

He made it home! #VeerTheUnbroken After a difficult rescue and a long journey to safety, Veer is finally home at our Elephant Hospital Campus (EHC), surrounded by veterinarians, caregivers, and the quiet care he has never known before. Poached as a calf and forced into a life of begging, the 26-year-old tusker has only known cruelty and neglect. Under the bright hospital lights, we noticed how he has the most beautiful, butter-coloured eyes, full of curiosity, inspecting everything surrounding him, with so much patience. Now the real work begins. Healing his injured body. Rebuilding his strength. Restoring his confidence. Giving him back the dignity he was denied. This will take extensive medical care, long-term treatment, expert oversight and endless patience and love. Your support can help carry Veer from survival to true recovery. Become a monthly supporter and be part of his lifelong journey toward healing, safety, and the peaceful life he deserves: give.wildlifesos.org/page/183612/do…

As someone works with human rights violations, I have never seen anything like the Epstein files in my 15-year career. You know what else died in that Island? The myth of humanity. If people can't unite over children being raped and abused there's no hope for humanity.

Great to see this sympathetic overview article in the LA Times latimes.com/doctors-scient… It's long so many if not most patients probably won't agree with every sentence but overall gets across a lot sympathetically. Note: it doesn't focus on any particular news #MEcfs #CFS
