Was thinking exactly this listening to Wu’s answers at yesterday’s MAHA Homeownership Mayoral Forum in Boston Appreciated @JoshKraftBoston’s thoughts on the right incentives to unlock more new construction in Boston to address affordability Curious what would the other 2 mayoral candidates Domingos DaRosa @DaRosaAtLarge and Robert Cappucci would’ve said IF they were invited … Why weren’t they? Candidates largely talked about their plans to create more affordable housing units, grant and mortgage reduction programs. Nothing (at least not from the stage) on the fact that once you become a homeowner you’d probably like to stay a homeowner, i.e. we should be heavily focusing on current homeownership costs which are driving many people into pre-foreclosures / property sales and exodus from MA (see U-Haul’s 2024 growth report). Some of the biggest drivers of homeownership costs are the #GreenNewDeal policies and the fiscally irresponsible governance in general… I think Bostonians need to organize their own quarterly, if not monthly, townhalls to engage in a real open discourse between neighbors, homebuyers & homesellers, builders etc. MAHAhome.org has another forum on August 7, but virtual this time👇
