@jacobinfante24 Have to assume they will make a call or 2 to a DE who is still hanging out in FA

THREAD: The #Bears waited too long to draft a defensive tackle, but Jordan van den Berg is a seamless scheme fit and tremendous value this late.

@FWM8675309 @DhruvKoul Everything I said was pretty accurate. I appreciate your attempt at trying to say something clever though.

I'm not saying they have the right unit in-house. But last year was incomplete with injury, to be fair. I expect them to add after the draft. But I wouldn't want them to draft a random DL for the sake of it if they can get a better impact player instead. I'm open to the argument that the players they picked instead won't be impact players (though I think their first 3 picks are really good and Thomas (even if a reach IMO) seems to fit Ben's vision). But simply *insert DL instead* is flimsy to me.

@DhruvKoul I get what you’re saying, but we’ve had five years to address this. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Then to double down and act like we already have the right unit in-house after last year’s performance.

@DhruvKoul I do believe a small move up, which would have cost very little to grab Jacas would have helped their pass rush. Definitely wouldn’t have hurt it lol

@Da_Logical_Bear I understand that. I think it was early for Thomas as well. My whole point though has been adding a DL for the sake of it if they don't like any of them is counterproductive and I'm trying to fight the "need based" scouting narrative.

We don't know this for sure. Andrew Berry was just quoted as wanting "the best blocking TE" (Roush) later and it was stolen from him. Jake Slaughter went right after Logan Jones (and Jones is better). Never assume based on consensus boards. Teams have so much more info.

@DhruvKoul After Thieneman everyone else could potentially have gotten in the 4th rd and beyond. Can’t pretend every pick they made, made sense in those spots. A lot of reaches, especially the Thomas pick.

@DhruvKoul I get that. I do. I personally think they could have added someone to help their line. Also, with the news of wanting Crosby and then Lawerence I think they could have been a little more aggressive in FA. We all play GM this time of yr so we all have different opinions.

@CXOseth @dabearsblog Oh yea, there’s a positive spin. The defense gives up 40 pts but at least we can see more kick returns

I can’t wait for the first Zavion Thomas kick return TD to be met with some draftnik fan bemoaning the team not having the 16th best DE in the draft instead.

@DhruvKoul to be clear I’m not knocking these kids who have worked their butt off to get to the NFL. They could turn out to be great players. It’s a bad draft because they were all reaches, minus Thieneman. Could have gotten all of them in Rds 4 and beyond. Defensive front still a problem.

@DhruvKoul Sometimes brother, you just have to say it was a bad draft. After 3 rds, it was a bad draft.

Safety is absolutely turned over for the better. Thieneman is an elite prospect and Coby Bryant is an upgrade over Byard at this stage. Speed, instinct and coverage is all majorly improved. The Bears' LB corps was better with D'Marco Jackson on the field. They made him a starter and added Devin Bush. More speed. There's generally reason to believe a good DC can extract better results with better players. I expect them to make some moves to add competition after the draft at minimum. This isn't a complete picture yet.
RL@_Ryan_Larson_

@DhruvKoul I can’t say that any part of this tweet is accurate. Safety was turned over, but that doesn’t mean it’s for the better. LB has one new addition, who will be the signing of the year. Outside of that, the defense is a bottom 10 candidate. DDS is underrated.
