@chriswithans This is also why I think it's silly when people talk about how the RNC has more outraised the DNC or has more cash on hand. The Dems will never be short of cash when and where they need it. Lack of funds will never be a reason Dems lose.

They need to spend a ton to get their younger and minority voters to turnout. Especially in the South. And consider how important this is for Spanberger, Lucas, and Scott. If they lose this referendum, they're disgraced amongst the entire national Democrat Party. Even a 1% chance of losing must terrify them and other Virginia Democrats. If they lose this referendum, all the momentum they built up over the past 15 months is undermined. The narrative shifts hard against Democrat prospects. They'd be back to December 2024. Lost again in the wilderness.
Virginia Project@ProjectVirginia

It's kind of wild that VA Dems can pull an additional $10 million out of their hindquarters on a whim to throw into the referendum fight, when the entire GOP side effort can't raise that much for the entire campaign. It's an infinite-money cheat

@chriswithans We are solid blue state now. At some point people will accept this and then maybe we can fix it. Youngkin managed to delay things for a bit, but he completely failed at stopping it from happening.

@Dad44Rva Guess we’ll see. We don’t tend to do well on standalone voting events but this is a southern state and people are voting against the people in power.

This is the first real poll of the redistricting measure since the February Roanoke poll that was 44/52 and the January CNU poll that was 51/43. Heritage Action did have a pseudo-question last week that was Yes 45/No 36. This poll, from another university, shows a slight lead for the Democrats’ preferred outcome. But e-day is over two weeks away. Hopefully we see more polling on this soon.
Tyler Englander@TylerEnglander

New: A George Mason University/Washington Post poll found that 52% of likely voters say they would vote, are leaning toward voting, or have already voted in favor of Virginia’s redistricting referendum. Among Likely Voters: Yes: 52%
No: 47% Among Registered Voters: Yes: 53%
No: 44% washingtonpost.com/documents/0eee…

I know it's been 40 years and some of you were still sperm in your father, but all y'all screeching NO KIDS WATCHED THE CHALLENGER EXPLOSION are not only stupid, you're pig ignorant. 1) A teacher was on board as an astronaut 2) Lot of teachers wheeled TVs into their classrooms so that kids could watch a teacher fly into space. 3) Those kids saw the Challenger explode One of the worst videos I saw was of Christa McAuliffe's (the teacher in question) classroom -with a sub teacher- watching the video as the Challenger exploded.

@earlyvotedata All those ships are taking the Iranian "checkpoint/toll booth" route. Notice how they pass through those islands in the north? Haven't seen any reports of ships that are not using that route and passing through.

Some color on who is & isn't being paid in ICE & CBP via the One Big Beautiful Bill. Most of ICE & CBP are funded through 2029 via the OBBB and operations won't be impacted if they aren't funded through appropriations, for now. All frontline law enforcement is being paid. The ICE, Border Patrol, and CBP agents we see in the field are all getting paid via OBBB.  HOWEVER... their professional and civilian support staff are NOT being paid. These are people who work the computers, the public affairs offices, and other support staff who aren't on the front line making immigration arrests, but are supporting the agents who are. These civilian support staffers haven't been paid for almost half of the last six months when you factor in the prior shutdown last fall. They feel left behind - and feel they have no light at the end of the tunnel with this Senate bill leaving CBP & ICE unfunded through appropriations. They would have to hope GOP could take care of them in a future reconciliation bill, or that more funds could be moved around to pay them. These are some texts I've gotten from these staffers... CBP support employee:  "The senate bill paid TSA but thousands of CBP & ICE professional staff will not be paid.   The last paid work day for me was February 13.  Now senate on paid vacation until April 13 that is a guarantee for 2 months no pay.  Very likely we won’t be paid until May if Johnson lets the bill pass." ICE civilian employee: "I have a huge favor. When you guys report on the fact that ICE is funded through OB3 funds, can you please make it known that support staff (i.e. mission support, OPA, etc.) is NOT getting paid?" HSI civilian employee:   "We civilians are not getting paid, I'm working with my mom in the hospital and not getting paid. This is all so frustrating...sorry bill for venting!"

The bill is for regular funding for FY 2026. All other parts of the Govt were funded. DHS/ICE enforcement operations were funded thru 2028 in the OBBB. The Senate bill simply didn’t add MORE money in the 2026 FY appropriation as it did for other agencies. Those other agencies didn’t get the big increase in the OBBB. The Rep Sens said they would add money to ICE with a separate reconciliation bill. Last night’s bill did not “defund” operations - it just didn’t add more to what ICE already has.
Shipwreckedcrew@shipwreckedcrew

I believe there is a huge over-reaction caused by a mis-understanding about what the Senate bill did and did not do last night.

Tracking very much like Dune 2, which made $45 million in its second weekend (Fri-Sun) en route to $282 million domestically. That wasn't terrible though. Oppenheimer made $47 million en route to $330 million. Oppenheimer had better weekdays because of its summer release. None of them are like Avatar: Fire and Ash however. That film made $63 million in its second weekend post-Christmas 2025, a mere 29% drop from its opening weekend.
Global Box Office@GlobalBoxOffice

Ryan Gosling’s PROJECT HAIL MARY is tracking to make $40M-$45M domestically this weekend, dropping less than -50%. 👏🏻

BREAKING: Johnson is pitching members on a clean 60 day CR that would fund ALL of DHS, including ICE. This would send the package back to the Senate and require them to come back to end the DHS shutdown.

This combined with Philly closing schools due to the NFL Draft, this is insanity. When will this stop? Are we just going to close schools for anything that might increase traffic? This is a bad precedent being set.

Futures prices is a better benchmark than Brent Crude, which is the Spot Market. Futures prices peaked at $120 a barrel at time of "closing" Strait of Hormuz panic, but is now back down into the $90s. Was at $60s before the war, so it has gone up. But the trend now is down -- panic has passed and oil remains as available now as before the attack.

From Judge Boasberg's opinion in the grand jury subpoenas dated March 11, top of page 7: "The next day, our U.S. Attorney’s Office served two subpoenas on the Board. Id. One demanded records about the renovations. See ECF No. 5-3 (Renovations Subpoena) at ECF p. 4. The other sought records related to Powell’s testimony. See ECF Nos. 5-2 (Testimony Subpoena) at ECF p. 4." "Our"?? I understand it is the USAO for DC, and he's the CJ for the District Court for DC. But phrasing his sentence in this fashion is quite odd -- and I'm not sure it was unintentional? I don't understand it.
