@markroseman It depends on the context. Most reputable psychiatrists will at least prescribe the medication for the disorder they diagnosed and then yes the family doc can take over. However, there are some ADHD clinics for example who will diagnose every single patient with ADHD and not rx

Hearing about more and more patients who've gotten psychiatric consultations who take the recommendations to a "family doctor" (online, walk-in) who refuses to implement—too complex. WTF are these people supposed to do? And why bother doing consults if no followup?

IMO re: expanded prescribing of pharma's. Overprescribing of Abx without proper workups. The conflict of interest in making $ from their rx is ignored. Most pharmacists act with skill & integrity. The system rewards those that don't. Likely result = SUPERBUGS!

@drpaulwinston @dockevinmcleod Has UBC changed how much it pays? Last time I checked it was half as much per hour to facilitate a small group learning session as it was to work in office.

@dockevinmcleod I have a medical student about 50% of the time. I agree to have a second on request (there are 10 doctors in the hospital and community). We get paid a lot to teach. It should be easy to expand. I have a FP resident most Mondays. UBC needs to be funded for to expand programs

Can’t access a doctor? Waiting 10 hours in ER? On a many month waiting list for a specialist? It’s a solvable problem. 1. Expand medical school positions by 10% per year for the next 5 years. 2. Expand residency positions by 15% per year for the next 5 years. The extra 5% will create more spaces for Canadians who have gone to some of the top medical schools around the world who want to come home to work here. 3. Simplify the licensing process. It should not take years to assess a physician especially when they have worked and trained in comparable systems like Australia, the UK, and Ireland. 4. Allow physician assistants immediately. Not in a couple years. Today. 5. Support team based care. Not bureaucratic complex teams. Let the physician who knows the local community hire a team.

BC Ministry of Health put out a statement today for Midwives Day, of course important & valuable colleagues in our health care system. 2 days ago was National Physician's Day. Federal government put out a statement of support, BC didn't. Why? @DoctorsOfBC @bcndp @adriandix

It was great to visit with Dr. Rob Roth, President of the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta, to discuss the role they play in primary care. People visit naturopathic practitioners for various health-related purposes, including primary care, overall well-being, and treatment of illnesses.

Once a drug is Health Canada @fda approved there is no oversight/regulation of MARKETING. Pharma paid experts, pharma hires tech "virtual medical education", drug reps glossy flyers = 90% budget
