@drophockeyshow @NHLTradeAlert If a trade were to happen, it certainly would’ve been the Blues trying to sell him as a hot, big-game goalie coming off the Olympics ready for a playoff run. If they couldn’t even sell him to a goalie-needy team then, what makes you think someone will want him for a full season?

@drophockeyshow @NHLTradeAlert Any team could sign a vet min backup or rely on any prospect and still get equivalent play to what Binnington would offer. He was the worst goalie in the NHL this season worth -22 GSAx and has an .898 sv% the past half decade. No one wants him at even 1/3 his AAV. Trade unlikely.

DFO Rundown (Apr 22): Sounds like St. Louis is looking to retool and not rebuild. They will continue to explore trades for Colton Parayko, he wants to stay in the West. Pagnotta says the player the most likely to get moved is Jordan Binnington. #stlblues #NHL

@waddlehouse17 @rossjensen I want my bets to be guys who are natural born to be baseball players, not guys who were born to be slow pitch softball hitters. The slow pitch softball guys can be lottery tickets but not bets.

@DaddyFungo @rossjensen Because think about it. They see the game at an advanced level. It comes naturally to them. I’ll always bet on those type of guys even if undersized or lacking power vs a Spencer Jones type

😱 oh boy! Franklin Arias #5 Sometimes taking a rather dogmatic position on profiles like this like I tend to do really pays off. Sal Stewart, Kevin McGonigle, Franklin Arias, and countless other examples out there on the value of favoring strong hit > power in young prospects.

@waddlehouse17 @rossjensen I really do think guys who are simply able to post elite plate discipline numbers while 3-5 years younger than the avg age of their league remain under-appreciated by the prospect community. That is something that sticks and can be a carrying tool at the MLB level.

@waddlehouse17 @rossjensen The power thing is really just my way of elevating the tier a little bit to superstar potential type guys. But you look at a guy like Geraldo Perdomo who never had an ISO >.126 in full season MiLB but had elite BB:K as a teenager, even he ended up 38% above league avg as a hitter

@rossjensen It probably holds true for the older college draftees too. You see guys like Brendan Donovan —24 years old starting in A+— ending up with good BB:K plus a respectable ISO. He becomes a great MLB player despite dodging top 100 prospect lists. Solid way to uncover some gamers.

@DaddyFungo It absolutely is, from my personal experience. Not the only thing that matters of course, the actual rates mean something as do the player's other attributes. But this happens time and time again, I am still surprised that more of "the industry" hasn't caught on than it seems.

@rossjensen Specifically, I would be interested to group together some names who: 1) were 18-21 in full-season ball 2) hit that plate discipline marker (BB:K near 1:1.25 ish) 3) Had an ISO >.200 I’d imagine most had MLB success. It’s why I’m high on Rainiel Rodriguez, for example.

@rossjensen I would love to see a study on prospects who flirt with 1:1 BB/K ratios while demonstrating some measure of power at a young age. My feeling is that it’s a hard marker for future MLB success.

@BaseballWRLD_ Man, the Cardinals have 2.3 fWAR from this draft already this season between Jordan Walker (180 wRC+), Alec Burleson (121 wRC+), and Masyn Winn (110 wRC+). They also drafted Tink Hence who was a former top 50 prospect before injuries derailed him. What a haul.

This is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, man. Rainiel Rodriguez is genuinely one of the best power and best plate-discipline prospects we’ve had in years rolled into one hitter. For reference, Brendan Donovan had a 9.2% BB% and a 13.8% K% as a 24-year-old in A+ 🥲

@DaddyFungo @chadman_hardin @RedbirdRiot The baserunner’s goal is to slide into the base. The fielder’s goal is to get out of the baseline after stepping on 2nd. You cannot seriously watch this play and come out blaming the fielder.

@roddrickheffley @chadman_hardin @RedbirdRiot Yes, he is looking at the runner. Look how far he has to go to meet him even after his first stride off the bag lmao. I’m not a fan either these teams, it’s just obvious what happened here. The baserunner is not committing a dirty play, period.

@DaddyFungo @chadman_hardin @RedbirdRiot ah yes because the shortstop is focused on the runner and not the ball coming to him. instinct is to get out of the baseline to avoid a collision. why the fuck is he sliding out there, just bail to the left or right or duck down or even go at the bag

@CardinalSTLMuse We give up a ton of runs in games we’re losing because we don’t pitch the good bullpen pitchers and the games we win stay close because we don’t pitch the bad bullpen pitchers. Too much of a gap in that room.

@chadman_hardin @RedbirdRiot He’s camped at the bag waiting for a late transfer from the 2B. These are exaggerated shuffles to meet the runner’s lane. He had 3-4 feet to work with.

@DaddyFungo @RedbirdRiot I don’t know man turning two coming from short your momentum takes you that way. Runners should legit just stay in their lane.

@chadman_hardin @RedbirdRiot He’s sliding early away from the play to avoid a situation like this. It’s lowkey a smart play by Griffin to seek contact to exploit the obstruction rule, but stuff like this will warrant rule change consideration. This is one step short of chasing the runner into the OF grass.
