HRod. I'm probably one of the few out there who considers this a top 100 prospect, clocking in at #84 for me!

The STS OOPSY peak model's MLB hit tool distribution. Players who receive 80 grades: •Aaron Judge •Juan Soto •Yordan Alvarez •Junior Caminero •Julio Rodríguez •Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The STS hit tool is based on a combination of hitting for average and the ability to get on base.

@wordsofshep Indeed that's the tricky part of defining what we are talking about here. Power has its own tool rating in this case, but obviously it does play a part in both the ability to hit the ball well and get on base (the two main ingredients here).

Similarly Judge does very well by this same definition. Which is a definition we came to after surveying public opinion on what inputs should be considered. Certainly does not mean it is above critique, but the general public overwhelmingly signaled they felt on base skills need to be a part of the equation.

@StatlineScout tbc, not saying there's anything wrong with STS having an alternate definition, it just threw me a bit.

@BaseballATeam The model defines it as a combination of a player's projected future ability to hit for average and get on base.

This kid is going to explode when he’s in an age appropriate league. People often misunderstand a five tool prospect to just be someone who’s both fast and strong, what ends up functioning like a five tool prospect irl is someone who has average power/speed, can stay up the middle and a plus hit tool that maximizes the game power they have and gets to enough chances on the bases for the speed to count. Rojas has a chance to be a plus hitter with average or a tick above tools across the board if things come together.
Running From The OPS@OPS_BASEBALL

Jefferson Rojas clubbed his 3rd HR of the spring today. The 20 YO posted a 113 wRC+ across Hi-A and AA last season, collecting 34 XBH while running an 80.6% Contact%. He features a pull-heavy profile w/ a smooth, controlled swing from the right side.

Real conversation I had with @RosenJordanBlum during early development of the STS OOPSY Peak model. Jordan: we don't want to make things too easy for people. Takes all the fun out of it. Me: I do. I don't get my way with Jordan often (not because he's stubborn, he just out-logics me), but I think this time I did. We created a literal prospect-hunting cheat code.

Josue De Paula has a career .414 MiLB SLG, but everyone presumes more power will come 💪 Personally, I'm looking for something unexpected, from one of these profiles: •Franklin Arias •AJ Ewing •Dax Kilby •Aroon Escobar •Roldy Brito •George Lombard •Dauri Fernandez •Sam Antonacci •Hendry Mendez •Luis Lara •Justin Gonzales If any of these players show significant power growth, we're talking about top tier prospect potential!
