A man took his macbook to a repair shop because the battery was at 78% after just 14 months. "Is this normal?" The technician ran every diagnostic. Everything came back clean. No defects. No damage. No manufacturing issue. Then the technician turned the screen toward him and said something he wasn't expecting: "There's a setting Apple built in 2020 specifically to prevent this. They didn't turn it on for you. Your battery is dying twice as fast as it should and they make money when it does." He asked the obvious question: "So Apple is wearing out my own laptop on purpose?" The technician didn't answer. He just opened System Settings and walked him through every hidden setting that was secretly killing his MacBook. Interesting figures here: when @AgoraCFR did the first #UgandaParliamentExhibition, the vouchers exposed had a sum of about 19,000,000,000/= sent to junior staffers through their private accounts. After the exposé. I for one was naive enough to think they stopped. Nah! We’ve since found vouchers worth 50,000,000,000/=! Almost three times more than what was exposed first! They didn't slam the brakes: they hit the accelerator HARD! For context, Jinja district local govt is operating a budget of 47 billion this financial year, while Soroti DLG budget is just 35.9 billion! That is their budget for everything: health, local roads, education, etc. Damn! 🙌🏾

These aren't abandoned sci-fi movie sets, alien crash sites, or ancient pagan temples. They are Spomeniks- massive, abstract concrete monuments scattered across the mountains and fields of the former Yugoslavia. In the 1960s and 70s, Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito commissioned leading modernist architects and sculptors, such as Bogdan Bogdanović and Dušan Džamonja, to build some of these monuments to honor sites of WWII resistance and concentration camps. But there was a catch. Unlike traditional war memorials, Tito strictly forbade statues of generals, soldiers, or flags. Because Yugoslavia was a multi-ethnic nation trying to heal from a brutal war, the art had to be entirely abstract. Nada, I know you might be saying this partly in jest, 😁 but doesn't yesterday's election of the Speaker of the 12th Parliament actually settle the call for Rt. Hon. Anita Among to resign as Speaker? I mean, she's no longer in that role. If the point is about accountability, that's totally fair—but asking her to resign from a position she's already left feels more symbolic than practical. Still, I really do commend you for speaking truth to power and for pushing for her resignation all these years. That takes guts.

Are you aware of the vibrant online shopping community in Uganda? Jiji, for example. Plus many other online shopping platforms? And many individuals who sell their products online? Do you want to work for Ugandans? Each time an online transaction is made, there is a boda taking the product from the buyer to the seller, and a payment made either to the boda in cash, or to the seller via mobile money. Do you recognise the gap that can be filled by your courier service? Do you realise your courier can pick up the parcel, giving a receipt to the seller and a tracking number to the buyer? Then take the parcel to Posta for sorting and consolidation? Then take consolidated parcels to all Posta offices countrywide? Then last mile couriers deliver to the buyers, collect payment in cash or via merchant code? Then reconcile payments at the end of the day and remit payments to sellers, while keeping the shipping fees on Posta account? Do you realise how you can boost online businesses countrywide with organised, reliable, and guaranteed last mile delivery? Do you realise the parcels can be anything from slippers, clothing, tools, household items, to food and furniture, with guaranteed delivery within one to two days? Do you have any idea how many more businesses can spring up if they know their last mile delivery is reliably sorted? Do you have any idea how many more buyers can spring up from upcountry locations, if you give this a chance? Just think of the role you can play. Sitting on existing infrastructure and doing nothing is probably the best. Why would you, after all, add more work and earn more money? Or, even better, why would you perform your basic duty of facilitating internal communication and trade? Anyway, don't mind me. As you were.

Once you hit about a 20-point IQ gap, communication starts to completely break down. It's not that the lower IQ person is "stupid" (although that can often be the case) or the higher one is arrogant, it's that you're literally operating on different systems. A 20 point difference (roughly 1.3 standard deviations) means: Vocabulary and abstraction levels diverge sharply. What feels like crystal clear logic to one side sounds like vague, pretentious word salad to the other. Jokes land flat. Metaphors get taken literally. Complex cause and effect chains get simplified into "this good, that bad." Different time horizons and pattern recognition. One person thinks in months or years and sees systems, the other is locked into days or immediate rewards. Trying to explain second order effects feels like speaking another language. Also, processing speed and working memory gaps. The higher IQ person is already three steps ahead, getting impatient. The lower IQ person feels talked down to or overwhelmed. Both walk away frustrated. Both have wasted each others time.
