@Kellblog As someone who has spent time alternately working, paying, living and dying at tech cos over the years, this was mightily entertaining. Great read!

Many silicon valley concepts are defined from the POV of the VC, not the founder or employee -- e.g., an "exit" is typically a misnomer for everyone but the investors. Another such concept is "operator," one of the four classes of people in Silicon Valley, the other three being investor, founder, and employee. Thus, VCs and boards will tend to think of you as an operator if you're a hired CEO, any CXO, or ELT VP at a startup.

Devastation while watching cycling highlights this evening with my wife. Me: “you can’t see with the helmet, but that fella is pretty good looking” Jenny: “oh yeah?” Me: “yeah - he looks like me!” Jenny, post googling: “hahah - you think you look like him?! seriously?!”

@angela_w Great post - hope the last few days weren’t too taxing and fair play on making what I’m sure was a very tough call. In awe of you!

[these views are personal and do not reflect those of my employer] It has been a long weekend. The feeling of watching your company — something that is part of your identity but that you also don’t fully control — get scrutinized publicly is a profoundly unique one. The human urge to build something with people you love, to solve a problem that is interesting to you, is, to me, fundamental. The combination of these feelings is indescribable. How do you keep building in a community where you’ve broken trust? One thing I am sure of after this weekend is that Carta is an amazing place where so many people have a deep love for founders. We are working to build products and features to make building startups and funds easier. I am sorry — as Henry says below, we made a mistake that never should have happened. Without your trust, we are nothing. My twitter community has a disproportionate number of founders and VCs, and I am so grateful to those of you who have reached out in the past 48 hours. It means the world. I want to do right by you all. I love Carta’s mission to create more owners. I believe in it. I am grateful every day for the founders and fund managers I get to work with. And I am hopeful we can work to regain the trust of the startup ecosystem and continue innovating.

One of my tests for a great book is “Do I think I could write this?” I’m reading Zen And The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and there is zero chance I could write this book. I haven’t even finished it yet and I know it’s a masterpiece.

For those graduating this spring, I recommend the “This Is Water” video based on a David Foster Wallace talk. Also recommended for those for whom life is coming a bit too fast and hard right now. #davidfosterwallace #thisiswater youtu.be/eC7xzavzEKY

I'm moved by "Iron John, A Book About Men" by Robert Bly. Written in 1990, I'd argue things haven't gotten better. Men struggle to find their place. They hide parts of themselves and live an incomplete life. A thread 👇

Tech in Asia picked up an article of mine on why tackling the SEA region is so hard, and some thoughts about how to make it a success. If it's something you've run into before would love if you could check it out and share your thoughts! buff.ly/39OHOCW
