The fluorescent lights hummed above me, loud in the silence. I had waited months for this cataract surgery, but what made my chest feel tight wasn’t the thought of losing the appointment. And he was. After the procedure, he stayed while the nurse explained medications, instructions, and follow-up care. He drove me to the pharmacy, waited for the prescription, then brought me home. Inside my small apartment, he arranged pillows so I could rest exactly the way the doctor required. He made tea, somehow finding the box I keep tucked away on the second shelf, and placed the cup within easy reach. I felt embarrassed by how much he was doing. “You’ve already given up your whole afternoon,” I said. “I’m so sorry.” He stopped what he was doing and looked at me, his expression softening. “Lillian,” he said quietly, “I would give anything to spend one more afternoon taking my mom to an appointment. He checked to make sure I was using the eye drops correctly, asked how I was feeling, then sat and chatted about ordinary things—sports scores, a new neighbor moving in, the line at the coffee shop—until the apartment didn’t feel quite so quiet. I used to believe family meant the people you raised, the ones you devoted your life to. Now I understand something different. Family is the person who shows up. The one who doesn’t hesitate. I’m embarrassed asf to post this, but HELP. How do I make this stop? I clean it for her, it still ends up like this.. she cleans it, she cries about it and it still ends up like this.. I’m OVER it. I tried grounding her. Taking electronics. Cleaning it for her. Helping her clean it. & NOTHING.PHASES.HER. She genuinely doesn’t care. I told her yesterday “if your room doesn’t get cleaned today, you’re grounded” she looked at me and said “ok? I don’t care.” I even asked to remove it because once a person came to us for an order that they ordered from my store, Tedooo app, it was such a shame that the buyer accidentally saw it. We don’t live nasty. Our house is always spotless. HOW DO I GET MY GrandKID TO JUST KEEP A CLEAN DANG ROOM? She’s 8 if that makes any difference for any type of tips, ya girl is tired.........

At 8:50 this morning, the security line at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas! If they can operate like this during the horrendous, ridiculous government shutdown, why can’t Houston and other airports that are experiencing horrible issues?
