Pretty fun night at the @NebraskaCoach Showcase game! Five former @NESupremeGirls played in the game and nine members of the @NebraskaSupreme and @ETGmwgbb family played in the game! Some great hoopers in that photo.

The boys capture their 5th consecutive Jr Legion title. Seniors quest for 5 in a row begins with the area tournament starting Friday. Go Boats!

I watched Karl Ravech host Baseball Tonight every night as a kid. 10 pm sharp. I loved the game and relished the highlights. He was a true pro. That era of ESPN, and sports coverage in general, is long gone.

@guzbu821 @TaylorJDahl I’m a believer, especially in small schools in NE that we’d benefit from softball in the spring. Volleyball and softball programs would be deeper and stronger. That would hurt soccer but we have far more schools with softball than soccer.

@DallasSweet @TaylorJDahl I was about to say something about softball. My daughter would like to play volleyball but then couldn’t play softball. Super annoying most sports have turned into lasting year round.

Nebraska high school baseball should be moved to the summer so soccer, golf and track aren’t getting passed on. Does Nebraska need a HS season AND a Legion season? I don’t believe so.

@TaylorJDahl You’ve got a point but they’d have to learn to if they ant the kids. Softball and volleyball would also be tough to do at once. Several proposals have said a team sport and individual sport. They still get voted down. Maybe someday…

@DallasSweet Winter would be insanely difficult I agree. Some coaches would not be fans of sharing though.

@TaylorJDahl Dual sporting anytime would be great. Winter is nearly impossible. Very few kids can handle that load but some can and some will try. In reality most kids are already dual sporting because they’re playing club and school sports at the same time.

@DallasSweet I think dual sports in the spring would be great. There are a few kids who would want to do it.

Also I hope you don’t fall for the dumb belief that Malcolm is only good because of being near Lincoln and kids come to Malcolm from Lincoln to play baseball. Half of our starting roster the last 4 years can walk to school. The other half attended MPS long before baseball titles and high school sports. We’ve been successful in boys and girls sports for a long while. They’re good because they put in a heck of a lot of work at them, and have great adults around them who help teach them to play the right way.

Maybe we should get more people on board and allow dual sporting in school like other states. No reason a kid can’t play baseball and run track…if they’re that good. What sport doesn’t get two seasons as you say then. Legion baseball is funded by parents. Just line AAU volleyball and basketball, and USA track. We had track kids running in Oregon last month. That wasn’t for school.

Many would tell you that soccer pulled away from track. I remember those comments when I was young and soccer was added. We are from areas that had soccer before baseball, but baseball has been a sanctioned sport much longer than soccer has in Nebraska high schools. Let’s not forget. Some kids go to schools because of the opportunity to play certain sports. I’ve been told multiple times of the students Malcolm lost to neighboring schools before they started a baseball team.

@DallasSweet There are many difficult logistical aspects to make it happen within the AD office, like you said. I know AD’s live at school during the majority of the summer, not an easy gig. Bad phrasing on my part. I just hate track/soccer gets athletes pulled away in the spring.
