@jerijerod14 @UnderwaterLance The lack of lifeboats mattered, but the bigger influence was the sinking time. If it sank fast, the men would have scrambled for the lifeboats. But 2.5 hours allowed time for jockeying, chivalry, & social shuffling (and being judged if you violated Victorian customs).

@UnderwaterLance @DanEnRoute What about the Birkenhead drill? With the Atlantic it was impossible to launch lifeboats so it was kind of moot, the Arctic was women & children first (until men stole the boats) same with Laconia in 1942. With Titanic it was women & children only due to lack of lifeboats

Nautical fun fact: “women and children first” was a mythical propaganda campaign invented to argue against the suffrage movement, and the Titanic in 1912 is one of the only times it’s ever been used. See SINKABLE by @DanEnRoute

Could you imagine being at this wedding? A new video has been released showing the very moment that a fire started at the Iraq wedding this past Thursday in the northern province of Nineveh. Sadly, over one hundred people lost their lives, and many more suffered injuries after the fire started due to fireworks that were on the dance floor. Too many people don't realize how quickly fires can spread. Is this not one of the saddest thing you've ever seen?

@DanEnRoute Just finished and really enjoyed the audio version on sinkable. Great job on the narration, and of course the subject was fascinating!

Discussions of US infrastructure often emphasize the poor state that it's in - the word "crumbling" gets thrown around a lot. But for bridges at least, the worst ones have steadily been getting fixed.

As a nonfiction history author, I can tell you this document is historic and will be read (and cited) hundreds of years from now. Regardless of the trial outcome, this doc will be the defining set of facts of Trump's awful legacy. Trial will only fill in more details.
