I will die on this hill. I will argue till I’m blue in the face. I will produce the data. Participation in youth sports/activities is as important as many of the classes my kids take at school. Maybe more important.

@Jstation561 Buyer beware. For sure! Check out my post I just made. 5 min online and multiple studies/results showing the importance of participation.

@DanJMasters Dan - that is fantastic. I don’t disagree that it can be a great thing, unfortunately, the dilution and commoditization of “travel” has made it much more difficult to come by. Buyer beware is all I am saying.

@DanJMasters Brother I agree kids need sports. But if my son is failing at school he’s not going to basketball practice, he’s going to a tutor

@DudeManDude23 Where are kids leaning real-life application of teamwork, leadership, listening, social skills, strategy, work ethic, goal setting, etc? It’s hard to mirror this for my kids. It’s not as much a comparison of what is more important but rather the content involved in each.

@DanJMasters I tell people everyday. Put your kids in sports you learn more about yourself, working with a group, overcoming adversity, so much more!

@DanJMasters The key is it has to be the right situation and coaches. Unfortunately those are hard to come by these days

@SportingScholar @wrcoachtu87 @CoachReedLive I don’t think money/illusions/grandeur are running all youth sports options just like I don’t believe they aren’t affecting them all. Of course there is influence. My pt is that when filtered and selected with the proper values in mind, my kids participating is a no-brainer.

@DanJMasters @wrcoachtu87 @CoachReedLive To help me here, I can agree we can’t lump EVERY youth sports league into same silo….but how can we not say with certainty that money and illusions of grandeur are not running the youth sports landscape currently

@FlashPerform @DanJMasters I will start this off by saying I agree fully, but how youth sports is being run and handled as a whole through parents unreal demands and pressures is starting to diminish the value and lessons.

@MacanBerto I beg to differ - you can find it and it often starts with values and coaches.

@DanJMasters This is why I believe in the salary schedule for teachers. We math teachers are not inherently more important than science or English or art or STEM or history or languages or drama or sports. We each have our domains. Students will "find their place" in any of these areas.

@rockmaven56 Fair. It occurs and happens. However, look further and differently. You can find a solution.

@DanJMasters Well, I got to see Daddy Ball up close. It’s not good for the kids not favored. No matter the level after T-ball. You keep hoping but sitting in the stands at all those games, all those years, through high school I can confirm this. Winning at all costs starts right after T-ball

@DanJMasters Agreed me and my wife just had this discussion the other day. We went to our nieces birthday this weekend. Her and her brother involved in nothing. Both have behavioral issues, sports are sooo good for kids. Can be scouts or girl scouts but they need something.

@livin_mi Fair. Re-read my post. It’s about WHAT is taught in participating in them. You cannot mirror that in the classroom.

@DanJMasters A hill I will die on…kids don’t need sports and sports aren’t really THAT important. I say this as an avid sports fan. All sports could end tomorrow and the kids would be fine. End all schools tomorrow and the world as we know it ceases to exist.

@Teacher_Fulton Fair. But re-read my post. It’s about WHAT is taught and learned. The what. You cannot get that same content in most classes, in a school.

@DanJMasters This is the wrong hill to die on. Sports and activities are important, but they are obviously not as important as content area classes. I’d argue that your position is not just an intellectual problem, but it is primarily a moral problem.
