@byanica @GenelJumalon Except "digital art" is generally used to describe digitally hand drawn drawings and paintings. This is not that. AI art is fine, but it belongs in its own category for competition.

TL;DR — Someone entered an art competition with an AI-generated piece and won the first prize. Yeah that's pretty fucking shitty.

@VexingLive @GenelJumalon Yes and no. Oil painting takes practice and AI art doesn't. It's a tool for sure... but if AI art is going to be entered into competitons they need to be AI art competitions plain and simple. That's the point.

@GenelJumalon There is quite literally nothing wrong with this. Should the person have been more upfront about the tools they used? Probably. But ai is just that: a tool. The same way I use oil as a tool, the same way a photographer uses photoshops burn tool as a tool. Art is art.

@aetheredgefilm @GenelJumalon I'm sorry you don't see the problem. As a digital artist and MidJourney junkey I can tell you that refining prompts isn't difficult in the slightest and literally everyone does it. There's nothing skillful about it. It's not remotely comparable to time spent digital drawing.

@GenelJumalon I don’t see a problem with this. Not sure how this is that different from photography. Person spent weeks refining the input, and then combed through hundreds of options to arrive at the “best” ones. That requires subjective art experience. It’s not like the AI did it on its own.

@AceTheBooksmith @GenelJumalon If you understood you'd see the problem. As a digital artist and someone experienced with MidJourney I can say typing prompts doesn't require skill, especially not the skill required to digitally draw and paint. This should have been in an AI art competition is all..

@GenelJumalon I am not an artist, but I can understand why those who are may have negative feelings about this. However, I fail to see the problem. Yes, they did not draw these pieces themself, but they still sat down and took the time to pick the best after spending weeks of tuning the gen.

@DrEihpos @GenelJumalon Saying that AI art takes skill is laughable. There's possibly a slight curve, if at best. I say this having made thousands of images with MidJourney. I've even tested this by typing random numbers and letters or single words into a prompt and gotten stunning results...

@GenelJumalon Honestly, the amount of fine-tuning and decision-making to end up with this result is a form of art in itself. It jusy shouldn't be in the same category and handmade art.

@miraka_r @GenelJumalon No, it means they kept tweaking the prompt until they got better results, which is what anyone who uses MidJourney (myself included) has done. They're trying to make it sound like this is equivalent to the time spent learning to digitally paint well, which is a joke.
