In the days of a system in disarray, some praise for a listing officer and judge. The draft list had a case clashing with my son’s first Christmas concert tomorrow, but I am genuinely delighted that the court agreed to move the case to the afternoon so that I can still go 🤗

@CrimeGirI Thanks! Originally didn’t want to make a fuss but then, like you, the thought of not being there and him not seeing me broke me. Very glad I asked and grateful to my superstar of a clerk for sorting it.

@ChiaraMaddocks It does! Had to get my 2yo from nursery (sickness) 30 mins before a CVP last week. E-mailed HHJ to say no alternative childcare (Mrs J in work, grandparents at least 2hrs away) so child may be in background. Couldn’t have been nicer about it. Made everything much more bearable!

@LottieJohn1 By the sounds of it, wasn’t a criminal matter but civil cash forfeiture under POCA. Therefore very unhelpfully conflating the rates paid in proceedings not covered by legal aid and those paid under AGFS. Some staggering comments as well though, “just get more private work”?! 🤯

I've banged on about this but £750 per hour is the rate of a commercial silk. This was likely a fixed fee for a hearing of an hour, requiring many hours of prep, not an hourly rate of £750.

A "Rugby Culture" thread🧵 Beers, boozy away game bus trips, kangaroo courts etc are essential parts of rugby for many. They were for me. It helps forms bonds necessary to go to those dark places together on a match day. Long may it continue! It is, of course, entirely optional

@BarristerSecret First ever crown court appearance: client being brought in on a warrant at Blackfriars CC. HHJ Mota-Singh sitting. A trial on going in the same court. Guess who knocked a full carafe of water flying? He was like a kindly father looking on at an idiot child…
