Cognitive correlates of human endurance | PNAS pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… Our new study in @PNASNews shows that adding cognitive demands to endurance walking increased perceived physical effort, but people with stronger cognitive abilities felt the impact less.

Walking is a common form of human locomotion, but we rarely realize its connection to the brain unless it is disrupted. My research examines markers of walking and their associations with brain health. Check out our recent publication and write-up acsm.org/active-voice-w…

🔑Key take aways: 1⃣ the #accuracy of #OpenSource step counting algorithms w/ wrist-worn monitors varies widely 2⃣ the #machinelearning algorithm showed highest accuracy, but more ground truth data sets are needed @StrictlyStat Article available here:🔗doi.org/10.1123/jmpb.2…

Very happy to finally see this paper published in with an incredible team of experts in the neuroscience of physical activity.

Our group of #exercise and #cognition researchers (including @Olivier_Dupuy @chevalboris @estebancornejoi @MGerber_Unibas @benrattray @KamijoKeita) agrees to disagree with conclusions in a recent meta-analysis. We show our perspective @NatureHumBehav nature.com/articles/s4156…

@DanielAslan5 That addresses long recoveries but could exclude some otherwise viable participants I've come to prefer "no musculoskeletal injuries that would impair the ability to <task to be performed>" And of course talk with people about any uncertain cases

A common inclusion criterion in gait and related studies is often stated something like "no musculoskeletal injuries within the past year." This always seems strange to me, as some people are fully recovered in 3 months, while others have effects long after 1 year has passed.

Big poster day! 🤓 Come chat about soleus metabolic costs this afternoon (4-5pm, P2-97) and, if applicable, about working at your university next year (5-6:30pm, job market poster session). See you there!

From an evolutionary perspective, what distinguishes the human brain? You may say, the neocortex. Surprisingly, in humans and other great apes, the expansion of the cerebellum accelerated faster than the enlargement of the cerebral cortex. cell.com/current-biolog…

Exercise reduces your anxiety and promotes emotional stability. But how does that happen? Remarkably, there is a fundamental role played by the cerebellum and its connections to amygdala and the hypothalamus. Jing-Ning Zhu will present. Note the early start of this lecture.
