Cognitive correlates of human endurance | PNAS pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
Our new study in @PNASNews shows that adding cognitive demands to endurance walking increased perceived physical effort, but people with stronger cognitive abilities felt the impact less.

Walking is a common form of human locomotion, but we rarely realize its connection to the brain unless it is disrupted. My research examines markers of walking and their associations with brain health. Check out our recent publication and write-up acsm.org/active-voice-w…

1. Exciting new research from my advisor @DavidRaichlen and our Physical Activity + Brain Health research team! Main takeaway: The negative effects of sedentary behavior on brain health may be offset by engaging in physical activity. alz-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

🔑Key take aways: 1⃣ the #accuracy of #OpenSource step counting algorithms w/ wrist-worn monitors varies widely 2⃣ the #machinelearning algorithm showed highest accuracy, but more ground truth data sets are needed @StrictlyStat Article available here:🔗doi.org/10.1123/jmpb.2…

Our group of #exercise and #cognition researchers (including @Olivier_Dupuy @chevalboris @estebancornejoi @MGerber_Unibas @benrattray @KamijoKeita) agrees to disagree with conclusions in a recent meta-analysis. We show our perspective @NatureHumBehav nature.com/articles/s4156…

@BrianUmberger That seems to be a more appropriate and holistic approach

@DanielAslan5 That addresses long recoveries but could exclude some otherwise viable participants
I've come to prefer "no musculoskeletal injuries that would impair the ability to <task to be performed>"
And of course talk with people about any uncertain cases

From an evolutionary perspective, what distinguishes the human brain?
You may say, the neocortex.
Surprisingly, in humans and other great apes, the expansion of the cerebellum accelerated faster than the enlargement of the cerebral cortex.
