Mark Carney is seizing a costly Liberal majority that voters denied him, and doing so through backroom deals. In January, MP Gladu said that floor crossers should face voters in a byelection to give voters the final say. I could not agree more. She should do so. The people in her community voted for our Conservative vision of a Canada that is affordable, safe, and strong at home, not for the costly Liberal government she has now joined. She should honour her word and let voters decide.

@SpencerFernando The elected are paid for and employed by the people of the riding. They are not independent. If the constituents did not authorize or direct them - in a verified vote - to violate what they were elected for in that neighbourhood...they have no legitimacy. They are servants..

Were Canada to ban floor crossing, we would be suppressing the individual minds of those we elect, and further concentrating power in party leaders. As things stand now, floor crossing protects independence and keeps pressure on leaders to treat their colleagues well lest they watch those colleagues head elsewhere. Floor crossing – and the threat of it – protects us from a system where those we elect turn into mindless drones serving nothing more than the centralized will of ‘the leader.’ So, whether you agree with Gladu’s decision or not, it is essential to protect the right of MPs to cross the floor. The individual mind is the most precious resource we have.

@yegwave A very low turn out for the chiefs. This would signal that the First Nation people are not aligned with the chief types. Lucky if there was 200 people there. Question: Why did their First Nation people not come out to support their Chiefs?
