@C0blivious yes i really do; i hope we can start a lot more public debate very soon about how to approach this

This was in response to being asked whether we should ask the public if we want ASI. I presume we should do an adversarial collaboration to pick the wording and have AIPI put a poll in the field? (I predict building ASI will be deeply underwater with the American public.)

1/6 Collaborative poll on California's AI bill (SB1047) validates our previous surveys. Working with a critic, we designed wording together. Result? 62% support, matching our past findings. 🧵

1/ AIPI released a new poll of California this week looking at amendments proposed to the state’s SB1047 regulating frontier AI development. We find that Californians support safety testing requirements and prefer keeping the Frontier Model Division to oversee AI development.

1/ AIPI’s polling on California’s AI regulation bill SB1047 was featured in Politico Pro yesterday. We found 59% of Californians support the legislation and 20% oppose, with support rising to 64% among tech workers and 71% with state Democrats.

New poll presents 1,000 voters with what I think is a decent summary of the arguments for and against SB 1047 (although maybe could've mentioned some political economy counterarguments?) and finds +39 net support, rising to +47 among tech workers.

I'm not surprised SB 1047 has great numbers (it has polled really well every poll I've seen) but I am surprised to find the +47 among tech workers. Maybe just tracking that tech workers are mostly Dems and Dems more in favor? Either way, vivid reminder Twitter isn't real life.
