NEW: Tulsa, Oklahoma, has unveiled the state's first-ever "musical road" that plays "This Land is Your Land" when drivers drive over it. The new feature can be experienced when drivers pass over the Southwest Boulevard Bridge. The taxpayer price tag works out to about $5,800 per second of music, totaling $110,000. Drivers are told to drive about 35 mph to get the proper experience. The noise is produced by grooves in the pavement that create vibrations felt and heard in the car. Cool.

We will not tolerate any violation. This morning, the French Navy boarded an oil tanker coming from Russia, subject to international sanctions and suspected of flying a false flag. The operation was conducted on the high seas in the Mediterranean, with the support of several of our allies. Why is the US walking away from the Kurds in Syria and backing a unified government in Damascus instead? The US partnered with the SDF (mostly Kurdish fighters) for years because they were the best at beating ISIS on the ground. After Assad fell in late 2024, keeping the Kurds in control of a big chunk of northeast Syria started looking like a problem. It kept the country split in half, blocked any real rebuilding, and meant the US would have to stay there forever babysitting. Then the new guy in Damascus, Ahmed al-Sharaa, looked like someone who could actually hold the whole country together and be a decent partner against ISIS leftovers. So the Trump admin helped broker the January 18 deal: the SDF has to pull out of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, hand over the oil fields, border crossings, and ISIS prisons, and their fighters get folded into the regular Syrian army one by one (no keeping their own units). Basically ends the independent Kurdish zone. Big bonus for Turkey: They’ve hated the SDF forever because its main force (the YPG) is basically the Syrian version of the PKK—the group Turkey has been fighting as terrorists for decades. Same leaders, same training camps, fighters moving back and forth, same ideas. The US arming them pissed Turkey off for 10+ years and made NATO ties awkward. This deal forces the SDF to kick out any non-Syrian PKK people, which Turkey loves. Tensions drop, cooperation goes up. Important note: These SDF Kurds in Syria (Rojava) are way different from the Iraqi Kurds (like the Barzani family running the Kurdistan Regional Government). The Iraqi side is more traditional, nationalist, tribal, and capitalist-leaning—no big radical experiments. The Syrian SDF/PYD crowd is built on heavy communist/leftist roots: The PKK started as straight-up Marxist-Leninist revolutionaries in the '70s pushing class struggle and anti-imperialism. Even after Öcalan shifted to "democratic confederalism" (grassroots councils, eco-socialism, hardcore feminism, communal co-ops over private profit), it's still super socialist—anti-capitalist policies, collective economies, and alliances with actual Marxist groups. That's the "commie" part critics hammer on, and it made them toxic for Turkey and eventually less useful for US long-term goals. #Kurds #Syria
