He is clearly not withdrawing as a poison pill, and if voters tilt momentum towards candidate he doesn’t like, he is clearly going to stay in.
It is the exact kind of “control freak who doesn’t hear the word no” behavior that supports the accusations.
There are multiple strong progressive candidates now in the running AND the State party has put forward a state wide caucus to elect delegates as the proposed manner to pick a replacement rather than let the state board do it.
He needs to drop out now.

A mere 3,500 voters participated in the 2026 municipal caucuses in Maine to elect the representatives that will now choose the Democrat senate candidate. 154,000 Maine democrats voted for Platner’s platform on June 9. The voters deserve a democratic process.

I'm going to be honest here: if you're not from Maine, stay out of this. Maine is incredibly provincial, and however well-meaning you might be, this will have the opposite of the intended effect. We have a great movement ready to send Troy to Washington on the ground already

@mainepilled No. There will be absolutely no need to placate anyone. The party can give those delegates a ballot inclusive of filed candidates, and the delegates can choose to submit their ballot or not.

Platner remains popular with plenty of rank-and-file Maine Democrats, and if they reuse the same delegates as the state convention for whatever comes next, there will be a large majority of Platner backers who need to be placated and convinced he's not being couped
