Extremely unpopular opinion: It’s because Christianity is an inherently permissive religion. There is a much higher emphasis on proper belief over proper behavior. Especially in other people. The excesses of liberalism are so hard for Christianity to counter because they are Christian ideas taken to their logical extremes.
