X charges for blue checks. So does Meta. Only X gets slammed with a €120M fine.
The EU says X is tricking users by making them pay to look “verified.”
But here’s the kicker: X makes you use a real credit card and phone number.
That’s more ID than most governments ask for. Meanwhile, Meta sells blue checks to anyone with $15 and a pulse, and Brussels doesn’t blink.
Let’s be real. This isn't about badges. It’s about power.
The EU’s been itching to punish X ever since Elon took over and stopped censoring content they didn’t like.
Back in 2023, they were already threatening billion-euro fines over “disinformation.”
X didn’t flinch. That’s when the hunt began.
Now they’re pretending a blue check is dangerous while letting Instagram influencers push fake ads with no heat.
Meta plays nice, spends big on EU lobbyists, and obeys moderation demands.
X doesn’t. So guess who gets hit.

The European Union countries have been freeloading off of American defense spending for decades. While the USA spends money to defend Europe, they barely spent anything at all and instead funded a welfare state.
At the same time, European policy has been to undermine the American health system, especially in the area of drug prices. Americans pay 3x more for drugs, while most Europeans mandate far lower prices. Or they just ignore patents and let their drug manufacturers produce generic drugs.
American get stuck with the higher bills to pay for the R&D that went into those drugs.
European countries (and the EU) have been waging economic war against the USA for decades, but we have been unwilling to fight back until President Trump started demanding fair trade deals. The next step is Section 301 investigations into European violations of American patents.

The US has a $250 billion trade deficit with the European Union. The EU has been taking advantage of the goodwill of the United States since the end of WW2. A huge part of that is in pharmaceutical patents and IP rights. Europe gets vastly cheaper drug prices, with Americans paying 3x more for name-brand drugs that are still under patent protection. The EU just allows their companies to make cheap generics, forcing Americans to carry the R&D costs and pay for it all. Once again, the socialists in the EU expect the USA to pay for everything while they get a free ride. Using the hammer of tariffs, President Trump is forcing changes in US-EU trade talks.
