The optical bench for the MICADO camera being transported at the observatory, near my office, which will go on @ESO's ELT, the biggest single mirror optical/IR scope which will be built in our lifetimes, some speculate, ever. Surreal. The only on schedule 30 m class telescope.

[Press Release] Vela: the True Scale of a Hidden Giant Structure Revealed Astronomers have uncovered a massive hidden structure in the Universe that had remained concealed behind the dust and stars of our own Milky Way galaxy. Using a new hybrid technique that combines different kinds of galaxy measurements, an international team has revealed the true scale of the Vela Supercluster, one of the largest concentrations of matter in the nearby cosmos. The discovery fills a major gap in our map of the Universe and helps explain how galaxies move under the influence of gravity across enormous cosmic distances. Jour 007, orbite 0108: Photo de l’un de mes premiers entraînements sur CEVIS, le vélo de la Station spatiale internationale – en micropesanteur, pas besoin de guidon ni de selle ! Le vélo m’a toujours beaucoup plu, et je retrouve mes repères en faisant du sport. En pleine forme ! CEVIS est à bord de la Station depuis plus de quinze ans. Il fait partie des trois appareils d’exercice qui nous permettent de compenser les effets de la micropesanteur sur notre corps. Les deux autres sont T2, un tapis roulant, et ARED, qui s’apparente à un appareil de musculation. Nous nous entraînons une à deux heures par jour en suivant un programme personnalisé qui nous aide à rester en forme et prêts pour toutes les phases de la mission. Vous vous souvenez de l’E4D ? C’est l’équipement de nouvelle génération sur lequel je me suis entraînée en janvier au Centre européen des astronautes.
