@screamingfrog any chance that SF is giving away free merch, like t-shirts? My old SF t-shirt shrank. 👉🏼👈🏼😅

@JohnMu if we serve a 200 status code page to users with a 404 messaging on the page and meta robots set to noindex, then serve bots a page with a 404 status code with 404 messaging on the page. Will that disrupt anything form SEO lens?

"LLMs favor content that does X" is not a thing!
LLMs don't favor anything. They're not information retrieval systems; they're next-token predictors. They guess the most statistically likely response based on patterns in training data.
The search engine layer bolted on top via RAG? That's IR (Information Retrieval)!! The base LLM model? Not even close.
During training, LLMs process text from across the web, but they don't log URLs, store sources, or remember where anything came from. What's left is a frozen statistical snapshot (Gao et al., 2023). Not an index. Not a database.
Search engines do the crawling, indexing, and retrieval. LLMs lean on them heavily to surface real-time info (because on their own, they can't).
Stop optimizing for 'AI.' Optimize for search engines (so retrieval-based AI can cite you) + earn third-party coverage (so the model already knows you before the prompt is typed).

@glenngabe Does it make sense to pay for Gemini pro once this releases? 🤔
English

Heads-up! Google said this was coming in November when Gemini 3 rolled out to AI Mode. Now AI Overviews can leverage Gemini Pro for complex topics. See more below from Robby. Here's a screenshot from the announcement in November.

Update: AI Overviews now tap into Gemini 3 Pro for complex topics. Behind the scenes, Search will intelligently route your toughest Qs to our frontier model (just like we do in AI Mode) while continuing to use faster models for simpler tasks. Live in English globally for Google AI Pro & Ultra subs.

@rustybrick @dannysullivan @JohnMu "Technical SEO is built into most CMS platforms now" - wish this was the case ecommerce platforms.

Google's @dannysullivan and @johnmu say AI SEO is the same as traditional SEO and they dive into what AI Search wants to rank well seroundtable.com/google-danny-s…

English

@rustybrick It looks like they are trying to improve the experience through a survey as well:

English

@rustybrick I'm probably late in the game but I just realized that you can apply Google posts to all the listings under your GBP account all at once. No need to do this for every individual listing anymore.

English

@rustybrick Wasn't this because Google was pulling one of the user comments below the blog and not so much summarizing the article?

@brodieseo Would it be fair to say that this will also eat up your crawl budget, in scenario in where the website using this approach has over a million canonicalized pages? Adding these locale pages will make it even unnecessarily larger, despite having the proper canonicals in place.
English

International SEO: expanding a website into new regions and languages can get messy real quick without the correct foundations.
The language/region selector is a good example of this, where it is not uncommon for large sites to link to the related variant in ineffective ways.
For instance, this site links directly to the related page (being better than a lot of sites that just link to the homepage by default) within the selector, but the URLs include a ?locale= parameter at the end.
Granted, the ?locale= URLs have a canonical pointing to the page that should be indexed in search results, but this approach just causes an unnecessary mess and dilutes the focus considerably.
A helpful way of seeing the impact of this approach is in the 'alternate page with proper canonical tag' flag in the GSC page indexing a report, where the majority of the pages being categorised in this way are from this approach alone.
The good news is that this is quite a straightforward fix that will have a far-reaching effect across the domain, which already has millions of pages within Google's index.
This is just one of the many signals that are important to pay attention to with international SEO at scale, with GSC being an invaluable tool for highlighting when changes are required.

@Nike @nikestore @yehwho Nike, something is wonky with y'alls geotargeting (maybe hreflang?). I'm seeing the Indonesian landing page and Rupiah pricing in Google search results whenever I enter a Nike specific product within the U.S. It appears only for the air max 2.5 tl.

English

@rustybrick Did Google Search Console update the max range you can pull data within the platform? I'm now seeing 6 months instead of 16.

English

@ChromeDevTools It appears that the Network Conditions > Override User Agent String is no longer working for most sites. Where there any updates to this feature?
