It's National Pet Day, so of course I have to ask one of the most pressing issues Seattle is facing: Will @KingCountyMetro fare enforcement ask dogs for proof of payment? If they can't sit in your lap, they have to pay too! (Except service dogs) kingcounty.gov/en/dept/metro/…

@supersat @TheORCACard Even for regular ORCA cards, you can't charge multiple fares onto one card anymore. So you *have* to pay cash or have multiple cards to pay for your dog.

On a slightly more serious note, I found this in The Manual. RRFP users can pay cash and get a transfer. But what about @TheORCACard LIFT users? TBH, charging fares for dogs just causes all sorts of issues, and should probably be eliminated. We don't charge youth fares anymore!

@transitapp @SoundTransit something about how this alert is coded in the realtime data is causing the entire line to show up as suspended in Transit App. Can't even bypass it to view the schedules. not good!

@KingCountyMetro do you have any info about the lack of realtime data on a handful of bus routes, including the G Line? Since the G rarely runs on a rigid schedule I'm finding it very difficult to use, especially in the evenings. And I haven't seen any info about the data outage

Like clockwork, commentators interpret elections as ideological mandates. Trump wins, so voters hate progressives and want conservatism. Here's why that's wrong. 1) It doesn't help explain why parties *of all ideologies* lost vote share post-COVID.

@TaylorMatthewD I like your thread but I take issue with this. He doesn't have a democratic mandate- he won with 1% and all the downballot stuff moved left. And the country is very split religiously. 22% non religious + many non practicing Christians. Not like India, Turkey, Hungary.

What makes this so dangerous is that, to his followers -- the only segment of the Amer populace he cares about -- Trump can make the case that he has not only a democratic mandate, but that he also has a divine mandate to enact his agenda. "Promises made. Promises kept." 14/

I've tried to approach this election unflinchingly & w/ clear eyes, but this is the absolute worst case scenario. We're in an epochal shift in American history of the worst sort, &, while it does not spell the absolute end of Amer liberal democracy, MAGA is a fatal illness. 1/

Forgive the soapboxing. My only personal thoughts on what’s next. No prescriptions, no blame. Not qualified for that. Just my loose prior for what comes, as someone who thought Trump had a very good shot of getting back into office with a trifecta.

Really appreciated reading this. Need some optimism to not get completely lost in the dark doomerism.

Also King County Metro should probably entirely abandon its fleet electrification plans.

My biggest concerns and biggest hopes for a Trump admin, with varying probabilities of course: Concerns: 1) Mass deportation 2) Tariffs 3) ACA repeal Hopes: 1) NEPA killed, broader deregulation 2) Housing reform 3) More high skilled immigration

Everybody keep your heads up. This isn’t forever, and after America gets a taste of what it voted for, there will likely be a massive backlash. There will be lots of time to come, and I’m still in the trenches with you. Just going to take a bit longer.

As awful as Trump's second victory is, it is also contingent and close. We can defeat him and his movement, even now his victory is narrow. But we cannot give up or give in. We fight back, build a movement, and we can do this.

@cruickshank I hope this just 4 years of shitty policy from a government too incompetent to accomplish its true goals. I'm hoping the story we've been told was an exaggeration. I think that's the only way I'll be able to sleep at night

@Danielhep Fascism always loses. But sometimes it takes a while. 40 years in the case of Spain and Portugal. But it did eventually lose. And so it will here too.
