can we just refer to it as “attending parking” or the “attending lounge” so that my soul can be at peace because calling it the “Physician X” but excluding residents chafes the fiber of my being

@emily_fri @Dr_B_Ring As a IM co-resident once said, “don’t take care of people with other people inside of them.” Of course we do sometimes but I still look up every med I prescribe

@Dr_B_Ring Ok this falls very firmly into please never admit to medicine and as a medicine doctor I was admittedly thinking squarely in my Sick Adult Patient box. 😬

Make enough hospitalists and medicalish intensivists so that almost every patient can be primarily admitted to a medicine service with everyone else as a consult. Yes? No?

1/ Good morning, #medtwitter, and happy #12LeadThursday! Remember to approach every ECG systematically. Grab your calipers, and let’s dive in! What do you make of the case and ECG below?

@writesolution Wait a second, not everyone uses sorry this way!? Do you have any alternatives to sorry? I sometimes say “I’m sorry you’re going through this” instead of “I’m sorry”

Can we get Dr. @uche_blackstock to 100k? She is only 600 followers away and I think if you enjoy my posts, you would enjoy hers as well. What do you think?

Since it's Disability Pride Month, I'd love to address something I see many issues with out in the wild: Wheelchair etiquette There are appropriate and inappropriate ways to interact with someone who is in a wheelchair. Knowing them benefits all involved. A non exhaustive 🧵

@jfitzgeraldMD I’m also forever thankful to my gyn SURGEON who improved my pain and likely made it easier for me to get pregnant with my first child who is due in December ❤️

@jfitzgeraldMD Yep! I thankfully got connected to pelvic floor PT and had surgery. Things are improved but will likely require lifelong work. I’ve learned a lot from being a patient but there is still so much more we need to learn about endometriosis, pelvic floor dysfunction, and chronic pain

@londyloo Have a set format so you don’t leave anything out. Some residencies try to standardize the format. From top to bottom mine was: stable/unstable> 1 liner with pmh, admission reason, notable events>any FYIs>to do> next of kin contact.

Any tips for giving good sign out? Would appreciate tips for giving sign out, writing good sign outs, and what makes a “bad” sign out. 🙌 Gonna work on improving my sign outs next week.

When people talk about coming off medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), I sometimes talk about Rat Park. It’s a famous experiment among non-scientists interested in drug policy—there’s even a comic describing it: stuartmcmillen.com/comic/rat-park/ /1

@lostblackboy That place is terrific but I’m jealous I didn’t get to play with the horse. Guess it’s worth it to reserve by phone. Enjoy!

I just made dinner reservations at a tomato farm for my trip to Iceland next week, and the only lady on the phone asked if I want to play with a small Icelandic horse after my meal and…I might cry.

@nishathedoctor It’s so much harder when you’re a resident because you have to staff, you get one room, and you share MAs. You’re much faster already than you realize. And how fun! I hope he/she/they are doing well. Thank you for taking care of them :)

When it’s your first day as a ~PGY3~ with a full clinic schedule and you finally finish your notes at the ~expeditious~ time of 8PM 😅 It gets better, right?
