So Israel now wants to defeat its enemies without having to ask people like Thomas Massie for permission not to let 7th-century Islamist hordes overrun the place, steal babies, and ransom their corpses for the terrorists, rapists, and murderers they name streets after. Smart people in the US government are quietly pushing to keep the aid flowing. They know that, after its own military power, nothing gives America more leverage in the region than its ability to restrain Israel. But you’re a doughnut, Cenk, so you don’t get that. Sir Tony Brenton, former British ambassador to Russia, has written to offer the UK Jewish community some unsolicited advice: if you want antisemitic violence to stop, try being more appalled by Israel. The argument is a masterclass in a very old move, executed with the confidence that only a certain kind of establishment figure can muster. First, you reframe the data. The surge in antisemitism after October 7 wasn’t really antisemitism, Sir Tony explains — it was “widespread popular rage” at Israeli “overreaction.” The quotation marks around “antisemitism” do important work here. They perform skepticism without having to argue for it. Then comes the throat-clearing: “This of course does not excuse the anti-Jewish outrages that have taken place since.” And then the payload: the UK Jewish community “could help to damp down the likelihood of such outrages” by making clear it is “as appalled by the brutality of Israeli policy as almost everyone else is.” Read that again slowly. A former ambassador is telling a minority community that the best way to reduce violence against them is to publicly condemn the right people, to the right degree, to satisfy the sensibilities of - whom exactly? Almost everyone else. The unnamed, self-evident majority whose rage, we have already been told, is not really antisemitism at all. This is a purity test. The intellectual structure would be immediately recognizable - and scandalous - if applied to any other minority. It would not be published. The premise, that a community bears responsibility for managing hatred directed at it by performing the correct ideological dissociation, would be identified instantly as victim-blaming of the most craven kind. With Jews, apparently, the formula remains available. There is also the matter of the evidence. Sir Tony claims the post-October 7 surge was “not, or mostly not, antisemitism at all” - just political anger at Israeli policy. Yet the Community Security Trust, recorded the first antisemitic incident at 12:55pm on October 7 itself, hours after the massacre began. 31 incidents were recorded that day. The daily total peaked on October 11 at 80 , the highest number ever recorded on a single day in British history. Israel’s ground operation began on October 27. The worst day of antisemitism in modern Britain occurred sixteen days before Israel set foot in Gaza. The perpetrators did not wait to assess the proportionality of the Israeli response. They started within hours of the massacre. Sir Tony’s framework simply cannot accommodate this fact, which is why it goes unmentioned. What his letter actually proposes is that antisemitism be treated as a problem Jews can manage through correct political performance. Pass the test, demonstrate sufficient distance from Israel, sufficient appallment ; and maybe, just maybe- the violence will subside. This is the oldest libel in European history, updated with footnotes and published in a newspaper in the same week two Jewish men were stabbed in broad daylight in Golders Green. Wer Bitcoin in Deutschland länger als ein Jahr hält, zahlt darauf bisher null Steuern. Genau dieser eine Standortvorteil steht jetzt offiziell im Haushaltsplan der Bundesregierung. Als Streichposten. Heute hat das Bundeskabinett die Eckwerte für den Haushalt 2027 beschlossen. In den Unterlagen aus dem Finanzministerium taucht ein Punkt auf, der die Krypto-Community in Deutschland seit Monaten beschäftigt: eine “veränderte Besteuerung von Kryptowährungen”. Im Klartext: Die einjährige Haltefrist soll fallen. Bisher ist die Regel einfach. Wer Bitcoin oder andere Kryptowährungen länger als zwölf Monate hält und dann verkauft, zahlt auf den Gewinn keine Steuer. Egal ob 1.000 Euro oder 1 Million. Das ist seit Jahren der einzige echte Standortvorteil für deutsche Bitcoin-Halter im europäischen Vergleich. Genau dieser Vorteil soll weg. Damit würde Bitcoin steuerlich wie Aktien behandelt: Jeder Verkauf wird steuerpflichtig, unabhängig davon, wie lange du gehalten hast. Spannend ist nicht das Was. Spannend ist das Warum. Bundesfinanzminister Lars Klingbeil hat es mit der Union nicht geschafft, sich auf echte Einsparungen zu einigen. Die CDU forderte unter anderem die Abschaffung des 1. Mai als Feiertag und einen Karenztag bei Krankheit. Die SPD lehnte ab. Es kam zu Streit, laut Klingbeil sogar zu Geschrei im Verhandlungsraum. Geeinigt hat man sich am Ende nicht aufs Sparen. Sondern auf neue Einnahmen. Der Haushalt 2027 sieht 110,8 Milliarden Euro neue Schulden vor. Allein im Kernhaushalt. 2026 waren es noch 98 Milliarden. Dazu kommen 27,5 Milliarden aus dem Sondervermögen Bundeswehr und 58,2 Milliarden aus dem Sondervermögen Infrastruktur, beides schuldenfinanziert. Steuern auf Zucker. Auf Plastik. Höhere Tabak und Alkoholsteuer. Und eben Krypto. Martin Greive, Leiter des Hauptstadtbüros des Handelsblatts, schreibt seit 13 Jahren über Finanzpolitik. Er nennt den Haushaltsentwurf “erschütternd” und spricht von “Luftbuchungen” und “Globalpositionen”, mit denen Lücken kaschiert würden. Die Begründung der Politik für die Krypto-Steuer klingt anders. Bündnis 90/Die Grünen sprechen seit Monaten von einer “Krypto-Lücke” von 11,4 Milliarden Euro pro Jahr. Eine Pflegekraft zahle Steuern, ein Lehrer zahle Steuern, aber wer Bitcoin lange genug halte, zahle null. Das sei eine “himmelschreiende Ungerechtigkeit”. Der Haken: Diese 11,4 Milliarden sind keine offizielle Zahl. Sie stammen aus einer Hochrechnung der Steuersoftware Blockpit, basierend auf einem Sample. Genau dieses Muster kennt man aus Österreich. Dort wurde die Haltefrist 2022 abgeschafft. Krypto-Gewinne werden seitdem pauschal mit 27,5 Prozent besteuert, unabhängig von der Haltedauer. Die politische Verkaufsformel war damals dieselbe: Gleichstellung mit Aktien, Modernisierung, Gerechtigkeit. Drei Jahre später kommt in Deutschland exakt dieselbe Argumentation auf den Tisch. Mit derselben Datengrundlage. Diesmal vom selben Anbieter. Was technisch dazukommt: Seit dem 1. Januar 2026 ist in Deutschland das Kryptowerte-Steuertransparenzgesetz in Kraft. Krypto-Börsen müssen ab 2027 alle Nutzerdaten und Transaktionen automatisch an das Bundeszentralamt für Steuern melden. Genau ab dem Zeitpunkt, ab dem die neue Besteuerung greifen würde, hat der Staat erstmals lückenlosen Zugriff auf jede Bewegung. Die Infrastruktur ist gelegt. Was bedeutet das konkret? Wenn die Reform kommt, verschwindet der einzige steuerliche Vorteil, den langfristig orientierte Bitcoin-Halter in Deutschland haben. Wer 2017 für 5.000 Euro Bitcoin gekauft und nicht verkauft hat, sitzt heute auf einem sechsstelligen Gewinn, den er bisher steuerfrei realisieren könnte. Nach der Reform wird daraus, je nach Ausgestaltung, ein steuerpflichtiger Vorgang. Offen ist bisher, ob es Übergangsfristen gibt, ob Altbestände geschützt werden und ab wann die Regelung greifen soll. Das größere Bild: Es ist nicht nur eine Steuerreform. Sieben Millionen Krypto-Nutzer in Deutschland sind die Zielgruppe. Sie sind politisch schlecht organisiert, in den klassischen Medien ohne Lobby, und sie sitzen auf Buchgewinnen aus einem mehrjährigen Bullenmarkt. Aus der Logik eines Finanzministers, der dringend Geld sucht und keine echten Einsparungen durchsetzen kann, ist das die einfachste Zielgruppe. Genau das ist es auch, was hier passiert. Wir reden nicht über Krypto-Politik. Wir reden über Haushaltsstopfen. Die Erfahrung aus Österreich legt nahe, dass die fiskalischen Effekte am Ende deutlich kleiner ausfallen als versprochen. Die strukturellen Effekte aber sind real. Höhere Compliance-Kosten für Privatanleger. Verlust eines Wettbewerbsvorteils im europäischen Vergleich. Und ein klares Signal: In einem Staat, der seine Schulden nicht über Einsparungen, sondern über neue Steuern und neue Schulden finanziert, gibt es keine Kategorie von Vermögen, die langfristig unangetastet bleibt. Wer geglaubt hat, sein Bitcoin sei sicher, weil eine zwölfmonatige Frist ihn schützt, wird das in den nächsten Wochen lernen. Frist ist Politik. Politik ändert sich, wenn der Haushalt sich ändert. Let me give you some context, because it seems to me that, like many leftist and pro-Islamist journalists in Germany, you are missing the real problem: For days now, this smear campaign has tried to dress itself up as “accountability” and “critical journalism.” But there is a difference between asking serious questions and deliberately undermining someone who is standing on a stage to represent people who have been massacred, imprisoned, silenced, tortured, and cut off from the world. When people inside Iran are denied basic freedoms, when many cannot even access the #internet freely to speak for themselves, it is deeply cynical to pretend that attacking one of the few voices carrying their message abroad is some “noble act of #journalism”. Critical journalism should challenge power. It should expose corruption, abuse, lies, and hypocrisy. But when it becomes a tool to discredit the voice of victims, it stops being journalism and becomes part of the problem. And yes, there is a broader issue here: the cultural racism and double standard in parts of the German debate. When Alexei Navalny stood against Putin, Germany understood very well what political symbolism means. The German government gave him protection, medical treatment, international attention, and moral support against a brutal authoritarian regime. Nobody said he had to be perfect before he could be heard. Nobody reduced the Russian people’s struggle to a cheap debate about whether Navalny was “allowed” to speak against Putin. But when Iranians rally around a political figure who challenges the Islamic regime, suddenly the tone changes. Suddenly, the victims are lectured. Suddenly the exiled opposition is treated with suspicion. Suddenly, the question is not how to confront the regime, but how to weaken the person amplifying the demands of those who cannot speak freely! Reducing the suffering of millions to a social-media performance, while ignoring the people who see him as one of their political voices, is not accountability. It is arrogance. If German media and politicians can understand why Russians needed international support against Putin, they should be able to understand why Iranians need the same against the Islamic regime. Anything else is not “critical journalism.” It is a double standard and cultural #racism dressed up as virtue. The real question is not why someone asked questions.
