Barry Trotz says there were offers for Erik Haula, some of them "very good offers" but that he decided to hold him to keep a veteran player around for the rest of the season. Compared the situation to Alex Carrier from 2024...

I know ppl are hoping for Surin and Lee to be something. But by not drafting those blue chip prospects you won't build a championship team. Team is long overdue

Bill Haslam pretty clear he’s not open to a full scale rebuild.
Essentially saying that the current roster has a lot of great players and that he doesn’t see the need to blow it up.
I guess this a good reminder to not be surprised by expected behavior. This franchise is what it’s always been.

@HawkeyeBeliever @Parkave211 @501Broadway Oh yeah for sure, I was just spit balling their biggest assets. Forsberg's play will age pretty well so he's someone they can def hold onto. I like Josi as well in a mentor type role. But I'm of the mind that everyone else can go. Team needs a direction before it gets really bad

(Side note I was considering stamkos in that retiring mix) Forsberg is one of them over 30 (31 and under contract for 4 more years so theoretically he could be playing for 6-7 more years)
But correct point still remains-preds are in a bad bad spot in 3 years with no action

@HawkeyeBeliever @Parkave211 @501Broadway This is a great point. If you wait until players like forsberg, josi, and o'reilly retire. Then you don't really have the assets anymore to jump start a rebuild. The length of a rebuild really depends on how you sell your assets.

@Burneronmylap @BayAreaTrev Cheap depth move probably to reward the young guys. He’s a enforcer/grinder type of player so he’s not flashy. Pretty sure he led in hitting one of these past seasons. He’s also pretty fast but he’s only getting older so who knows how much of that production he has left

@BaronVonL Idk I've really lost faith in the org. I blame less the fans and more Trotz. If this deadline passes without him selling off a few assets in what will be a seller's market. Then this org inches closer and closer to a Buffalo type rebuild. A long never ending situation.

Far too many fans accept it as an organizational success if you make the playoffs. Hint: its not when it comes with another first round ouster by a vastly superior team. Long term, big picture, they'd be better served being COL of 2018. They're not Preds of 2017 or Blues of 2019.

Of course I don’t think there’s a good chance they beat any team in a 7 game series they’d play in round 1. It’d be a slim chance at best. With that being said, I have been a fan of this franchise since their inception and if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that they’re never going to sell if they’re in playoff contention. Between the Titans and Preds, this city has been in hell for 3+ years now. The city needs something to cheer about. The playoffs are fun and if they’re able to keep this pace the rest of the year, I strongly suggest you just enjoy the ride and see where it takes us.

@BaronVonL I've seen far too many ppl reference 2017 as if this roster was built like that one. And the season wins against teams like EDM, MIN, VGK. Are we forgetting that teams play very differently come playoff time? This team ain't winning a series against VGK, EDM, MIN, DAL, or COL

@AngryPredsFan I really don't get the reasoning from fans I've seen for keeping him. The team already has so many vets that rookies can grow from. Not taking advantage of the haul you can get for him right before a loaded draft would seem like a total whiff to me from Trotz.

@Jimmylegs71 @LandryAgnesGSD The major difference is those teams knew when to throw in the towel and commit to a rebuild. All of those teams will be competitive for years to come. Meanwhile the preds prospect farm is pretty thin. And it feels like Trotz and co haven't committed to a plan.
