Someone once told me about an occurrence that happened here in Ilorin. Allahu A’lam, I don’t know if it’s true or false He said a wife and her brother-in-law were committing adultery, and when they were caught, the matter was brought before the elders in the family. During the family meeting, someone raised an opinion that went like this: “At least he didn’t commit the adultery outside the family. At least it’s his brother’s wife and the matter can just stay within the family.” Which, in one way or another, justified the actions of the man and the wife, and they went scot-free. Because they couldn’t disown their own son, and they couldn’t punish the wife without also punishing the man. And it’s also not the first time I’ve heard similar stories about brothers sleeping with each other’s wives or speaking indecently about another person’s wife’s body parts. I don’t know if these occurrences are real, but if they are, they’re enough reasons to not want to raise a child here. Imagine your child mixing with this kind of family or children from such homes.
