I’ve been an Eddie Howe fan boy. I’ve backed him to the hilt. I’ll always respect EH for the cup win. But after today, I genuinely believe this could be it for him. Head is scrambled right now but anyone calling for him sacked, at this point, certainly aren’t foolish. #NUFC

👏🏼 A word for this guy, tonight - I felt he was outstanding. ⚽️ Gliding across the surface, spinning away from Pedri, playing little balls around the corner, covering every blade of grass. A goal threat. 🫡 After what’s been a very difficult start to his Newcastle career, he’s now looking the player #NUFC paid £40m for. #Ramsey

🇸🇪 Eddie Howe has offered a strong defense of Anthony Elanga amidst his slow start at St James' Park! 🛡️ Despite the winger failing to register a goal or assist since his move from Nottingham Forest and recently losing his spot to Jacob Murphy, Howe isn't worried: "Anthony is going to be a great player for this football club, I've got no doubt about that." He stressed that some players "need a little bit extra time and more support" for that positive moment to "suddenly kick off." Howe concluded he has "no issues or worries with him," confirming Elanga has all the necessary attributes for success here. It sounds like Elanga has the full backing of the manager. Time and patience are the key words! What do you think? Is Elanga just a goal away from hitting top gear? 🤔 #NUFC #NUFCFans #NUFCNews #NewcastleUnited #Newcastle #EPL #PremierLeague #FBLifestyle

🇪🇺🏆 As Newcastle United prepare to host Barcelona in a momentous Champions League clash, Eddie Howe faces a selection headache on the left wing. The position has been a battleground for a while, with Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes vying for the starting spot. While Barnes has enjoyed a run of games, a question hangs in the air: does Gordon deserve and need to be recalled for this high-stakes European encounter? The argument for Harvey Barnes is he can deliver goals and assists, and his ability to come inside and shoot is a real threat. His stats, 9 goals and 4 assists in 33 Premier League appearances in the 2024-25 season back up he is a handful but sadly and strangely nothing this campaign, so far. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, and his finishing has been a major asset but we just aren't seeing it so far, but form is temporary and class is permanent! However, the case for Anthony Gordon to start is equally compelling, if not more so, for a game of this magnitude. Gordon's influence on the pitch extends far beyond raw contributions. He is an England international and he was the 2023-24 Player of the Season, who brings a different dimension to the attack. His relentless work rate, explosive pace, and ability to take on defenders are a constant nightmare for the opposition. He has a unique knack for winning fouls in dangerous areas and drawing defenders out of position, creating space for others. While his 2024-25 Premier League stats of 6 goals and 5 assists in 34 appearances might not be as eye-catching as Barnes's, they tell only half the story. Gordon's pressing and defensive contributions are invaluable, particularly against a possession-heavy team like Barcelona. He is a key component of Howe's high-energy, counter attacking system. He also 'owes us' a performance after his moment of madness against Liverpool and needs to get the monkey off his back of not scoring in 223 days for Newcastle! The Barcelona game presents a different challenge than a typical Premier League fixture. It is a Champions League opener at St James' Park, where the atmosphere will be electric and every player will need to be at the top of their game. While Barnes offers a more direct, goal-scoring threat, Gordon's all-around game might be better suited to a match where Newcastle will likely be required to do a significant amount of defensive work and counter-attacking. Gordon's ability to carry the ball forward at pace and relieve pressure on the backline could be crucial against Barcelona's formidable midfield. His "nightmare for anyone" style of play, as he has often been described, is exactly the kind of disruptive force that could unsettle a team like Barcelona. This is not a question of one player being "better" than the other. It's about what the team needs for this specific match. Barnes has the shirt, but Gordon's skill set might be the one that gives us the best chance of success. His energy, defensive diligence, and ability to win fouls in key areas are attributes that could prove decisive. Dropping Barnes would be a tough call for Eddie Howe, but for the biggest game of the season so far, the recall of Anthony Gordon might just be the bold decision that pays off and it also keeps Barnes ready for Bournemouth. The stage is set for a fascinating tactical battle, and the choice between these two talented wingers could be the difference-maker! #NUFC #NUFCFans #NUFCNews #Newcastle #EPL #PremierLeague #ChampionsLeague #Barcelona
