You guys have latched yourselves to the idea that Denji was completely incapable of growing past the person he was and that’s the fundamental problem. If Denji could go from having no life at all to learning to love his family to not falling for Makimas bait when she took it from him, the natural progression was learning on his own that he didn’t need Chainsaw Man to be happy. But instead of writing a story where he learns that, Fujimoto decides to have Pochita do it and end the story. That is the disconnect

@Morningbird_Asa @rinneKO_art i wouldn’t call it headcanon. you are making inferences about the story, which is what great literature wants you to do of it. there is evidence for all that you said right there in the story. youre not ass pulling it or anything, your wishes are intentionally hinted at

@rinneKO_art The openness of it. The fact that something in Denji DID remember. The hope that Asa and Denji will reunite. The fact that both have a chance at true happiness even if not together. I like to imagine one day they might remember.

My opinion on the Ending of Chainsawman as a fan and reader since years.
To me it's a "happy ending" that lacks weight, no real taste, no lasting substance. Not just because it was rushed (though it was) but because of what it ultimately says (or doesn't say).

when pochita eats a devil the thing that gave them power is erased. the fear of chainsaws wasnt giving him power, but the fear of chainsaw man was. makima said he was so powerful because all devils in hell feared him. so when he ate himself just the concept of CSM was gone

i think pochita was just a chainsaw devil. he grew stronger by eating stronger devils and became the hero of hell. fujimoto could probably write a whole manga for it, with it ending with the big fight between pochita, the horsemen and the hybrids and then pochita disappearing

@0ng__o @Ichigo_WD that's not the story fujimoto wanted. He wanted you to make inferences about his ending. you're not ass pulling or making pure fanfiction. you're doing exactly what he wants. that is how it works. you can infer Asa can develop her character again without the traumatic events

This is not character development. A character develops when they DECIDE to make different choices.
Pochita erasing himself and Denji stopping Asa from falling were things completely out of her control.
Asa didn't develop. Her circumstances simply magically changed.

The concept that Asa lost character development because of the world reset is flawed. Her entire story revolves around carrying guilt that isn't hers and clinging to a reason to live because of it. Her savior complex was harming herself

she made a decision based on her own desires and motivations. it affected the plot. just because it didn't defeat yoru doesn't mean it had zero affect on the story. we get to see pochita then make a crazy decision after

Asa shooting herself did nothing because of Yoru's contract. She was trying to have Pochita eat her, but Pochita refused.
Asa was unable to change anything in that situation. Asa's actions literally impacted nothing in that arc.

She had agency when denji was telling her they will be together in a new world and she says I want that! Her development was in front of you in the entirety of part 2, erased but happened

@Darandri @Ichigo_WD Said development ultimately didn’t go anywhere because her arc didn’t conclude properly. She just got set back to square 1 by Pochita and never killed Bucky because of Denji. How am I, as a reader, supposed to look at all of that and feel satisfied?

Honestly, I feel like this is just a really cheap way to resolve everything.
Memories are still important, and getting rid of that means these characters have lost something significant. It makes the ending feel hollow.

in fact i’d go as far as to say a lot of people’s grievances are born of them misinterpreting the universe reset. ALL of it still Happened. ALL of it still Mattered. even if they can’t remember it. it still mattered. feelings have carried over.

@Ichigo_WD as a reader you should be able to understand that because it was erased for the characters it wasn’t erased for you. when you write something and then erase it, you still wrote it. her development happened and is apart of who she is, only we know that now

@Ichigo_WD she is still Asa, she can still do all of this. Now she doesn’t have to. She has the capability of developing under harsh circumstances, and will likely thrive under better ones.

@Ichigo_WD erase? she DID do all of that development in the worst conditions possible. shes an amazing character and the reset doesn’t take away from that. Using my brain I can infer she’s going to be able to develop her character again but without having to go through so much for it

I will admit, after reading that chapter I was really angry. I genuinely hate this chapter but I've calmed down so I can be somewhat fair in my thoughts:
I don't like this chapter. I think it's a slap in the face to not only fans but the characters involved. It doesn't make any sense from a simple writing perspective cause so many things would need to change if it was an actual hard reset. It takes away all agency Asa could've had in her own ending by putting it in the hands of Denji. It feels rushed as it frolics through old story beats for nostiglia along with Powers return that is remincinte of Nobara but on steroids.
This ending feels unearned and unsatisfying to me. My belief is Fujimoto was tired of writing this story based on the flow this narrative so far. What bothers me the most is that I believe Fujimoto is a better writer than this. I'm not buying the bullshit "Big Lebowski" excuses people are shoveling. The ball was dropped for whatever Part 2 was trying to say and I can't see past it. Good vibes be damned, this story deserved a better ending than this.⭐
