@PaulEmbery Calm down. It's not 'punishment'. It's giving people what they vote for.

This is not a serious way of doing politics. There will be many in Green constituencies who did not vote Green, and many in Reform constituencies who did not vote Reform. No government should set public policy with the purpose of punishing or rewarding an entire constituency on the grounds of which candidate it returned at the polls. Reform should withdraw this stupid commitment pronto.
Zia Yusuf@ZiaYusufUK

Today we announce a new policy: In order to deport all illegal migrants in Britain, Reform will need to detain tens of thousands at a time. Migrants will not be able to leave these detention centres, and each will be held there a couple of weeks before being deported. So here’s our promise: A Reform government will not put any migrant detention facilities in any constituency with a Reform MP. Nor will we put them where Reform controls the council. And of the remaining areas, we will prioritise Green controlled parliamentary constituencies and Green controlled councils to locate the detention centres. Put simply, if you vote in a Reform council or Reform MP, we guarantee you won’t have a detention centre near you. If you vote Green, there’s a good chance you will. This is an important exercise in democratic consent, not just for our mass deportation policy, but for where the detention centres are placed. Given @ZackPolanski openly advocates for open borders, I look forward to their warm embrace of this policy. votegreengetillegals.com

@FraserNelson It’s common sense. It’s giving the Green Party what they want. This Reform policy actually sounds pretty accommodating to its rivals.

@FraserNelson Really? It seems to me it's the epitome of a 'PM for all'. Everyone gets what they vote for.

It's called democracy. If the constituency votes in a Green MP who believes in allowing thousands of undocumented men in the country then they will be only too happy to have the detention camps in their area. Sorry Simon you're not reading the room on this one.
Simon Clarke@SirSimonClarke

We need to stop illegal immigration, but this is abhorrent from Reform. Zia is proposing the siting of detention centres expressly as a form of political punishment for people and places that don’t vote Reform - not just Green, but presumably Conservative, Liberal and Labour too. (And what about Reform voters in those constituencies?) It would almost certainly be deemed an abuse of ministerial power for political purposes, and as such would likely be stuck down in court before ever being implemented, wasting millions for the taxpayer without detaining anyone. If it were to go ahead, it would still represent an appalling waste of public money as these sites might well not be in any way suitable for the proposed centres, or near the other infrastructure required. What’s worse is that he is doing all this to provoke outrage and draw attention to Reform a few days out from the local elections. Reform know what they are doing. But this goes beyond a pre-election stunt. It’s declared as a major policy commitment, and should be treated as such. We need a proper plan to leave the ECHR and restore safe border controls, not gimmicks that wouldn’t survive first contact with reality.

On the contrary, Mr Nelson, a party in power that a) does what it says it will and b) directly applies its policies based on the voting preferences of a given region is MORE representative. Not less.
Fraser Nelson@FraserNelson

Another significant evolution in Reform's style of politics. Its proposed internment camps will only be built in parts of the country that vote for its rivals. This is a new departure for UK politics: rejecting the idea of PM-for-all and instead a new partisan style.

@SirSimonClarke Reap what you sow! You had 14 years of pretending to be conservatives while betraying the electorate! You hammered us with taxes and opened the borders so the responsibility of housing illegals should be on those who welcomed them!

@SirSimonClarke What on earth are you complaining about? The greens want open borders so they’re getting them. Reformers don’t want open borders so they won’t get them . That’s fair & everyone gets what they voted for:

Reform already have a “proper plan” to leave the ECHR and the Tories have copied it, like you’ve copied many of Reform policies. We are sick and tired of hearing from you Conservatives bleating on about Reform when it is YOUR incompetence which has brought this country to its knees. Yes Labour are turbocharging your mess, but it is YOUR mess. You created it, not Labour, you. You had 14 years to do the right things and you did worse than nothing. Listening to Kemi yesterday doing the media rounds asserting that she will never do a deal with Reform was like listening to an unfaithful ex telling all your mates she will never have you back; absolutely risible performative posturing. Forget it. Your done. Never vote Conservative again.

Simon, you are the best of men, but continuing to flog the Conservative horse is possibly your biggest error of judgment. What Zia is doing is no more or less than anything you did when campaigning to be an MP. The difference is, neither you nor I could deliver what we promised as members of Conservative party filled with leftish woke MPs. In this case, Reform WILL deliver.

@DarcyTrout @thebestsuse It’s a pity our council isn’t up for reelection this year, ours is 2027. We have to vote out our disastrous Labour/Libdem coalition council. We are being screwed over to the point where we are almost bankrupt. They make Rachel Reeves look like she’s a qualified accountant.

If the right don’t find some common ground and work together the next election looks very dicey. Also, Labour 5th in terms of seats is a hell of an indictment on their performance over the last 2 years.
