The #Worldsnookerchampionshop is incredible to be at Why anyone would fail to switch off their phone for a session defeats me and an Onlyfans 'model' grifting attention too. Really? #Socialmedia addiction and desperate narcissism are deeply damaging us #respect is dying

The state pension is not a random government favour, it’s the back end of a 35–40 year compulsory “contract” where people are forced to hand over National Insurance on the clear promise of a basic pension at the end. Politicians and think tanks helped design an unfunded, pay‑as‑you‑go system where today’s workers pay today’s pensioners, then have the gall to call it “unsustainable” as if the public dreamt it up. If a private firm sold you a retirement product on fixed terms, took your money for four decades, then announced at 66 that you “didn’t really need it” and would henceforth be means‑tested or frozen, they would be in court for mis‑selling and fraud. The crisis here is not pensioners “leeching off the young”, it’s a political class that built a Ponzi‑style NI system, diverted the proceeds for other spending, and now wants to default on the people who kept their side of the bargain. You do not blame the victims of a defective product for believing the brochure; you go after the people who wrote it.

@RachelD1892 They always have money for their pet projects, which Is why I don't care about getting a massive non-taxable war disability pension.

I just watched Starmer proudly announcing the UK will join a £78 billion loan to Ukraine. WTF!!?? We're broke, highest ever levels of debt, highest ever levels of tax, economy a total mess. Where is that money coming from when we simply haven't got it!? Something is very wrong!

Shame that was an alarm that got the person the boot there. Might well have had it on silent and that snuck through. But who sets an alarm for 9pm? Concerning behaviour, tbh. Out!

Abolish all benefits. Simplify it. Pay everyone the same amount. 40 hrs a week times min wage. Get them onto skills training to earn it or community work. If they are genuinely disabled give it to them. If a family member is designated a full time carer for them pay them too. Pay it to full time University Students for 3 years and ditch the loans. As a society we get something back for our money. People upskill, stuff needed doing gets done. What is wrong with this as an idea? If you have ever had to deal with the benefits system it is ridiculously complicated and expensive to run and get nothing back for our tax money.

@simonwatt85 The truth of the matter is that most of them can afford to buy a house, they just can't afford to buy the house of their dreams and they will not settle for anything that isn't in their home town.

Who else is fed up with people carping on about pensioners owning all the houses and sitting on large savings? Pensioners have paid a mortgage for 35 years so yes, they own their houses. They have to live on their savings for the rest of their lives. It's not rocket science.

🇱🇧 Insane CCTV footage of the 2020 Beirut port explosion that killed 218 people… this just shows the shockwave. 2,750 tons of improperly stored ammonium nitrate was the cause, in one of the largest non-nuclear detonations ever recorded.

I once sat near someone at an event who was on the receiving end of a Jan Verhaas stare when their phone went off, made me cold! Could never be on the receiving end of something like that!

The #snooker authorities have to do something about mobile phones going off during play. It is out of control. I strongly suspect that that is what caused Shaun Murphy to miss the green in the second frame, and it is only a matter of time before it costs a player a match. It won't take many people being kicked out on the first offence to put an end to it, and while it might feel harsh to do so, audiences have shown that they are unable to address this issue themselves. Time for zero-tolerance, I am afraid. @BBCSport @WeAreWST

And you shouldn’t be in business if you can’t pay your staff a proper living wage
Peter McCormack 🏴‍☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪@PeterMcCormack

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.
