This is a good and important win for artists—thanks to Senator Blackburn's leadership. For a long time, many musicians felt like they had to play for free or for reduced compensation when radio stations put on music festivals. But federal "payola" and related "showola" regulations prohibit undisclosed deals that tie airtime to reduced compensation for playing at festivals. This Consent Decree helps ensure that all broadcasters comply with these laws while letting artists know they can exercise their protected rights.
