“John Candy: I Like Me” will open #TIFF50 and I can’t wait for you all to see it. I have never enjoyed working so hard on editing something that means so much. This project is beyond special to me. Mom took me to see Planes, Trains, and Automobiles in 1987 when I was 13.

The Ryan Reynolds-produced documentary John Candy: I Like Me from director Colin Hanks is set to open the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 4, organizers announced Wednesday. hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-n…

The slugs voted for salt. Having not come of age in the 60s and 70s I wasn't witness to that change, so when Hunter Thompson used "Doomed" in his writing I took that as HST being typically hyperbolic. Now older and reflecting on 20 years since his passing this is my last tweet.

@TheresaKereakes This is a god-tier movie in its epic largeness and the inside-his-head narration. But the real hero is Eleanor. Her 'Hearts of Darkness' doc was one of the early films to get us 90's film kids into docs. Before 'Hands on a Hardbody', before 'Hoop Dreams' before 'American Movie.'

@TheresaKereakes All this reminds me of the Country Music book by Nick Tosches, which all sounded very much like the same punk rock ethos as country, rock and roll, rockabilly, and the blues were happening. His writing helped too.

I remember when Dwight Yoakam moved to Los Angeles. His contribution to this exhibit is essential. He introduces the whole thing in a short film and nails this Los Angeles hillbilly punk rock thing. IYKYK, I hate it when he’s right- but he is 💯 spot on

I visited @countrymusichof today to finally see the Western Edge Exhibit. As @chuckmead22 & I always remind each other- hillbilly & punk share an ethos. HUGE THANKS to Chuck; without him, I wouldn’t know Brenda Colladay and wouldn’t have been able to contribute in my small way

I was trying to figure out why Los Angeles feels so different. It's not just that a lot of rich people moved out, it's that the middle class don't live there anymore. All these neighborhoods are now super expensive so it sucked families out, and with them the teenagers that created the culture. Now it's either rich people, wanna be rich influencers, in debt working professionals, or essentially the poor class that work all the support jobs. There is no SoCal culture anymore of young people creating things like skateboarding or punk music. Just streaming executives in multimillion dollar bungalows that Tony Hawk used to live in as a 12-year-old.

The problem I have with most all documentaries is that they just do. It's not until you see something by either Errol Morris or Martin Scorsese that shows deep rooted purpose in both storytelling and filmmaking that you see what we should be doing.

Feeling my inner but upside down Tom Stoppard, Martin Amis, & EM Forster… gonna write a story in play form where the character who is always wrong is called Mr Wright; character who is always right & speaks the King’s English will be Mal Approp. The visionary is Tessa Kantell

If @dieworkwear put out a how to dress book that was like the cocktail books of Death & Co., Maison Premiere, Smuggler's Cove, etc., I would buy that in a heartbeat and start using it.

Episode 1 of “Yacht Rock” premiered on Channel 101 on this day in 2005. Created by JD Ryznar, Lane Farnham and Hunter Stair, the series also included co-producer Dave Lyons and host “Hollywood” Steve Huey. It coined the phrase “yacht rock” and rekindled interest in the genre.

R.I.P. to a true superstar. I mentioned how much I’d love to see a movie on Lee Trevino. Here’s another legend that current players and young fans need to know more about. My list of must make documentaries or movies. 1. Lee Trevino 2. Willie Mays 3. Roberto Clemente 4. Ted Williams 5. Who’s on your list?
