Final note: I interpret what @NateSilver538 was doing here as old-school blogging. He noticed an interesting pattern in the polling data, had an intuition about what might be behind it, and ran a quick-and-dirty analysis to check. I'm all for that! And I intend this thread in the same spirit.

So this was an interesting finding from @NateSilver538, but one I found odd because @BLS_gov publishes CPI for regions (and for some metro areas) but not for states. So I dug into it a bit, and there's less here than meets the eye.

💡Class activity idea to teach students about overfitting / p-hacking in a fun (???) way: 1. Give them a small dataset with tons of predictors 2. Dismayed at the dis- and misinformation swirling around the protests @columbia , #cjsStabile students @columbiajourn are exposing falsehoods in a new @X account called @CJS_FACTCHECK.

There's a lot of speculation about the uses of AI in elections, but I'm always keeping an eye out for actual documented uses. So excited to follow this project. I know I'll be checking this feed regularly throughout the year.
