Farewell to Bishop Peter Nworie Chukwu This morning, I joined the clergy drawn from across the country and lay faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki for the requiem Mass and burial of the late Most Rev. Peter Nworie Chukwu, Bishop of the Diocese. His passing is a profound loss to his family, the Diocese, and the Universal Church, but we are comforted by the testimonies of his life of dedicated service to God and humanity. In his homily, Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji reflected on the inevitability of death and described the late Bishop as a courageous and devoted shepherd whose life was marked by sacrifice, service, and fidelity to his calling. Governor Francis Nwifuru also described him as a monumental loss to Ebonyi State and a pathfinder whose leadership transcended religious boundaries. The Archbishop’s message further highlighted the moral demands of leadership and the commitment required of those entrusted with governance, both in the Church and public service, to make society work. The Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, representing the Holy Father, underscored the unity of the Universal Church in this moment of grief. I also commend Bishop Ernest Obodo, the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese, for his leadership and for ensuring a hitch-free funeral for the late Bishop. May God grant Bishop Peter Nworie Chukwu eternal rest. -PO

It is clear that fostering a robust economy and generating employment, as evidenced by rapidly growing nations like China, Indonesia, and Vietnam, necessitates a concerted effort to prioritise support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. As I have consistently asserted, our micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) serve as the driving force behind economic growth, and it is imperative that we provide them with vigorous support to enhance development and create significant employment opportunities, particularly within the agriculture and manufacturing sectors. And secondly, I wish to encourage you not to relent in your service to humanity. Nigerian nurses work under some of the toughest conditions with dignity and courage. From physical and mental stress to high patient-to-nurse ratios, to lack of equipment and poor working environments, your resilience keeps our health sector going. And beyond the shores of the nation, our nurses have continued to make exploits on the global stage. There's one guy in my area people think is a Yahoo boy. He's always in nice clothes, has a sleek Lexus car, and always at home. No office to go, and no visible business. To make things worse, the guy hardly talks to anybody. If you greet him, he'll just smile or nod his head and pass. So people have a lot of opinions about him. “Poud boy.” “He's definitely into fraud.” “He go dey just dey go. He no go greet anybody.” “No legit work fit make person dey house like that.” The backbiting on the street was just constant. The funny thing is, the guy is not even a Yahoo boy, and he's also not an arrogant person at all. I know this because I'm a little close to him. He's just naturally shy and awkward around people; so he always prefers to just go his own way gently. He's also working remotely for foreign companies, so he earns in dollars. One thing I've observed in life is that people backbite too much over things they don't understand.
