@mitchellh Actions speak louder than words, and your actions spoke louder than his words. Anyone who has ever worked with (not just for) Hashi knows this guy was (and maybe is) not being truthful. The culture has always been on full display, and Hashicorp was never shy about that.

Okay stupid story time cause it’s been long enough and I feel like airing dirty laundry today. One thing I found incredibly frustrating as an employer is you can’t share your side of the story when people are fired and you’re always painted as the bad guy. Here’s an extreme case.
This was sometime between 2012 and 2022, just to keep this vague. I don’t want to deal with identifying anyone. And honestly I don’t even remember his name anymore.
There was an employee we had that had a strong internet following as a neurodivergent person and advocate for women. One of the influencer types always fighting for the cause. He was also decently liked within the company and had a following within.
We got a report he sent lewd comments to a female employee. As part of our investigation we pulled his corporate chat history and emails (well IT did and HR reviewed, I didn’t have access to that personally). And we found tons of lewd comments, photos, VIDEOS. To many female employees, not just the one who reported.
Fired him that day.
He took to Twitter and painted us as hating diversity, being terrible to women, abusing his neurodivergence, etc etc. Many rallied behind him. We could only sit and watch because we can’t just release private correspondence publicly and we didn’t want to get into a public argument.
Haven’t heard from him in awhile. I think he left Twitter during the whole X thing because of social justice and all that. Of course. OF COURSE.
Are corporations always in the right? Obviously not. Was I perfect? Surely not (but in this case I’m feeling pretty good). But also don’t trust one sided stories. What a stupid and frustrating experience that was.

@BrianHHough I run an Ubuntu VM for stuff like that. Is that an option?

4 years ago, I took my 1st steps into tech with a @udacity course.
Today, I’m beyond thrilled to share that Beginner Python PCEP™ Certification Prep is ✨ LIVE ✨ and now I'm officially a Udacity instructor 🥹
What a full circle moment 🥲
Udacity didn’t just teach me how to code. It gave me the confidence to believe I could pivot into a career as a software engineer from a completely non-technical background.
This course is extra special for me because I got to film it in the Udacity Studio in Silicon Valley — my first trip to the heart of tech innovation 🚀
Stepping into that studio felt surreal. The energy, the creativity, and the incredible team I worked with made this an unforgettable experience.
In the Beginner Python PCEP™ Certification Prep, I’ll guide you every step of the way through the fundamentals of Python programming.
In this course, together, we'll:
🚀 Install Python, Visual Studio Code, and Project Jupyter Notebook
🐍 Explore Python’s syntax, data types, and operators
🔄 Master control flow with if, elif, else, and loops
📋 Work with data structures like lists, tuples, and dictionaries
🛠 Break problems into reusable functions
🚨 Handle errors with Python’s exception system (try-except)
🔍 Explore string manipulation and regular expressions
🧩 Build a real-world AI project using Amazon Reviews data
🧵 Dive into object-oriented programming (OOP) basics
🔢 Learn Boolean logic, relational operators, and numeric operations
📊 Create a portfolio-ready project showcasing your Python skills
And so much more...
I didn’t want this course to just prepare you for the PCEP certification.
I wanted it to get you ready to code in Python for the real world as well.
I can personally attest to how Python has expanded what I can do as a software engineer. It’s such a versatile language, whether you’re automating workflows, building web apps, working in the cloud, or diving into data science, it opens huge doors. 🚪
A HUGE thank you to the entire @udacity team for all of their help, support, advice, insights, and guidance. This opportunity is truly a dream come true and I am so grateful.
So... are you ready to dive in the exciting world of Python development? 👇
🔗 If you’re ready to level up (or even pivot into tech like I did), join the course today and use code "BLACKFRIDAY" for 55% OFF at checkout this week: bit.ly/3ZkBAWW

@mistwire Is it really a tech conference without an AI keynote?

Never did I expect that the rushed impromptu talk I gave at #midwestcommunityday would lead me on a path where I’m sitting in a cafe in Munich finalizing a training I’m leading tomorrow.
