All of the folks getting mad at me for pointing out that cremation is not a Christian practice….. Y’all are going to be real upset when you hear my position on: 1. Birth control 2. Being an organ donor 3. Women wearing jeans regularly 4. SSRIs 5. Euthanasia 6. Eating industrial slop 7. Women going to college 8. Women in the workforce 9. Men who are unable to work hard labor 10. Voluntarily sending your kids to public school

@StChad_1517 your AI missed the "cradle Orthodox" thing. When I visited, it was mentioned more than once that cradle EO were basically "better" than converts. I found that interesting since the cradle types often couldn't explain anything

Do “Contemporary Annotations”rebel against the Word of God? Listened to a 5 minute Sinclair Ferguson podcast. He provided quite a contrast to the “contemporary annotations” our LCMS put out. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/thi…

@ImDanChapa thanks but I feel we could be doing a better job explaining to others the beauty of our tradition. Lutherans spend too much time arguing with other Lutherans and RC/EO IMO.

Not a single Lutheran. I’m pleased we don’t align with earthly powers and ambition. “But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.” 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

@Infanttheology Really want to make RC mad? Remind them that without Luther, there would have been no council of Trent in the first place!

Sometimes I think Martin Luther's eventual vindication will take place not only among all Protestants but Roman Catholics as well! How can they not eventually make him a saint?! Are even elite Roman Catholic apologists dusty on their theology? Where does my argument fail?
Theology Like a Child@Infanttheology

I've got a new article up at the @Gottesdienst2 blog. What was the real point of the Council of Trent? I'll tell you what I suspect. It was an effort to *exclude* the very Augustinian branch of the western church -- & *include* those with Pelagian tendencies. Link below.

@___mithrandir_ I had no idea the idea of liturgy as adiaphora went as far back as 1959. I was reading Pastor Schenk's take on the sacraments

My least lcms opinion is that liturgy isn't as adiaphora as some think. Bad worship practices lead to bad theology, or at least bad ways of thinking about theology.

Setting 3 is undoubtedly the best, but the other settings still retain the bones of the mass. The language, the specific music or canticles, etc: that's adiaphora. If your parish prefers setting 1, cool, genuinely. But abolishing the mass entirely? That just seems perilous.

@matt_e_cochran Is Bierman a better choice than Harrison? It's like lesser of 2 evils at this point. Who will continue these trends less?

@DaveChesser1 We've certainly adopted the world's tactics on demographic replacement--baptized with pious verbiage, of course. That's one of the big reasons they react to CN like a vampire to a cross.

Imagine how LCMS demographics might look if, instead of hokey evangelism programs, we taught people to be fruitful & multiply and instructed women to be busy at home loving their husbands & children. It's always a good time to start trusting God's Word.
Ryan Burge 📊@ryanburge

Some absolutely INSANE numbers about the Amish. Average woman gives birth to 6 children in their lifetime. ~4% of first births are to unwed mothers. But here's crazier numbers: They convert virtually NO ONE. 154 total in 100 years. Retention: 85%

I suspect the LCMS as a whole is too feminized, antinomian, and liberal to reform itself. But in 20 years, we'll look quite different because half of us will have died of old age. So use the time wisely and do your best to pass local leadership to today's "radical" young men.

Why my family became Orthodox: - Theosis as man’s purpose/meaning - Man as divine, not depraved - Sin as infection, not merely infraction - Faith as participatory, not merely propositional - Full embrace of the spiritual realm - Real sacraments, real presence in Eucharist - Least affected by modernism/post-modernism - Apostolic succession, genuine authority - Logic/reason submits to mystical/spiritual - Theological depth, nuance, paradox - Beauty, symbolism, rich meaning - God (& cloud of witnesses) present in the Liturgy
Ryan Denton@TexasPreacher

I've noticed young men are into RCC/EO because it's trendy, not bc it's true. They like the colors, buzz, & pomp of the thing. It's cooler than to settle for the simplicity of Christ & worshipping Him in Spirit & truth. It's vainglory that leads them, not the Spirit of God.

@megbasham you have no interest in Rome dictating policy because Israel already does and you're 100% fine with that

I am not trying to make my Catholic friends, who I love, angry with this statement. But this entire episode is starting to explain to me why so many Americans were concerned about a Catholic president for so long. I have no interest in Rome trying to dictate American policy. And if it continues to loudly make its opinions heard on our foreign policy, I believe they’re going to find a lot of American Protestants feeling a lot less ecumenical than we have been in the more recent past.

I am very confused about synod politics, and wondering why Pastor Biermann would be running against Pastor Harrison for the job of synod president. They both seem similar enough to not make a huge difference.

@shebringsjoy It does kinda matter to the AALC, because a faction of the LCMS really dislikes us (and me in particular), and is desperate to cut all ties with the AALC. So, to some degree, those politics impact us.
