@SDJ_AFP @AfpFactuel @afpfr

There's a common misconception that Brutalist buildings were unpainted, but thanks to microscopic analysis of the exteriors we can now recreate what they looked like in their prime.

No one should be surprised but what he left out is that this turbine costs an estimated $50-80 million to build and install. It only produces power 35-45% of the time because wind is intermittent. Its output degrades 12-16% over its 20-25 year lifespan. It requires hundreds of tons of steel, concrete, fiberglass, and rare earth minerals mined largely in China (his favorite country). The other 55-65% of the time you need backup power, which comes from natural gas. And it exists only because of massive government subsidies. A natural gas plant of the same 26MW capacity costs $26-39 million, produces more than double the effective output, runs on demand 24 hours a day regardless of weather, and lasts 30-40 years. Half the price. Double the output. No weather dependency. No subsidies required. But this was never about the environment. If it were, you would care that rare earth mining for wind turbines devastates landscapes across China and Africa, that thousands of birds and bats are killed annually by turbine blades, that the blades themselves are non-recyclable fiberglass rotting in landfills, and that natural gas produces half the emissions of coal with none of these problems. You ignore all of this because environmentalism was never your goal. It is your vehicle. The destination is what it has always been: government control of energy production, which means government control of the economy, which is socialism. Rand identified this decades ago. The green movement is not a scientific movement. It is a political one, and its target is not pollution. It is capitalism.
BladeoftheSun@BladeoftheS

The World's largest Wind Turbine 26MW. In its lifetime it will produce the same energy as burning 750,000 tons of coal. That's 44,118 truck loads. And that's just 1 Wind Turbine.

In case you forgot: We live on a planet where whales sing songs that travel for miles. Where trees can recognize their own offspring and protect them underground. Where dolphins give each other names and where lightning can create glass in the sand. Where horses can read human emotions. Where rain has a smell before it even arrives and where the ocean can glow in the dark. A planet where the stars we see might not even exist anymore.

Vegans: "Drinking cow's milk is unnatural!" Great point. So instead of pulling on some teats for thirty seconds, we've developed a twelve-step industrial alternative. Step one: grow almonds in California, a drought-afflicted state currently depleting an aquifer that took twenty thousand years to fill. Step two: ship them to a processing facility. Step three: soak them in water. California water, specifically, because almonds need 15 gallons per ounce and California is already rationing. Step four: pulverise them into a slurry. Step five: filter the slurry through fine mesh, discarding most of the actual almond in the process. That was the bit with the nutrition in it. Gone now. Step six: add more water, because the resulting liquid isn't watery enough. Step seven: add sweeteners, because it tastes of nothing. Step eight: add emulsifiers, because it separates in six minutes otherwise. Step nine: add synthetic vitamins, because all the natural ones left in step five. Step ten: add seed oils, because we apparently learned nothing. Step eleven: homogenise, degas, pasteurise, and sterilise the mixture until it resembles no food that has ever existed in nature. Step twelve: put it in a carton with a picture of a field on it. The cow: stands in a field. Makes milk. Has done this for ten thousand years. No factory. No steps. No aquifer. Unnatural, though. Very unnatural.

Vulture populations in India collapsed. 500,000 people died as a result. In the 1990s, Indian farmers started using a cheap painkiller called diclofenac on their cattle. When vultures ate the carcasses, the drug destroyed their kidneys. Without vultures, cattle carcasses rotted in fields instead of being stripped clean in 45 minutes. Feral dog populations exploded by five million. Rabies cases surged. Pathogens spread through water supplies. University of Chicago economists compared death rates in districts that used to have vultures to districts that never did. Human mortality rose more than 4% after the collapse. Over 100,000 extra deaths a year. Half a million in five years. India banned the drug in 2006. The vultures still haven't recovered. This is what a keystone species is to us. This is why we protect the animals nobody finds cute.

“The Iranian regime poses no threat to the world.” Honestly, every time I hear that sentence - usually from a politician or a very comfortable diplomat - I mentally put a big red X on their ability to understand geopolitics. Not disagreement. Disqualification. Let’s walk through this slowly, for the well-meaning but dangerously naive. In what world is it normal for a state to recruit 700,000 fighters from across Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Pakistan… arm them, train them, and deploy them as transnational militias outside the authority of their own countries? In what world is it normal to effectively hijack the political, economic, and military decision-making of a neighboring state like Iraq, while simultaneously fueling civil wars in Syria and Yemen that have left millions dead and tens of millions displaced? In what world is it normal that half of a country’s armed forces - namely the IRGC - is designated as a terrorist organization by dozens of countries… and yet continues to operate, fund, arm, and expand? And here’s my favorite. In what world is it normal for a regime to transfer ballistic missiles (multi-warhead systems with ranges exceeding 2,500 km) to a terrorist non-state actors like the Houthis? Let me simplify that. Sovereign-level strategic weapons… handed to narco terror militias. Militias that traffic in narcotics, humans and chaos. And somehow, we’re told this is… not a threat? Even NATO countries like Germany or Italy don’t field that kind of range in their arsenals. But a militia in Yemen does? Perfectly normal. Nothing to see here. And all of this is happening in a region that holds roughly 60% of global oil and gas reserves, and controls the world’s most critical maritime choke points - Strait of Hormuz, Bab el-Mandeb, and the Suez Canal. So let me ask the obvious question. If this is not a threat… what exactly qualifies? Explain it to me like am a 5 year old!! Do we wait until global energy flows collapse? Until maritime trade is strangled? Until missiles start landing beyond the region? At what point do we graduate from “not a threat” to “perhaps mildly concerning”? Because from where I’m sitting, the regime isn’t preparing to become a threat. It already is one. Oh, I forgot .. All of the above is happening while the same terror sponsoring regime is seeking nuclear weapons and in actual control of 460 kg of highly enriched uranium enough for 11 nuclear bombs!!🤦🏻‍♂️
